Wondering if most tonneau covers for 2nd gen Tacos require the removal of the factory tie down rails to install. I bought an Access LiteRider roll-up tonneau and everything I read about it said that it uses aluminum clamps to attach to the bed, but when I received it, the instructions said that the tie down rails had to be removed. I was hoping for a more simple install with clamps or t-nuts that slide into the rails. Does any manufacturer make a roll-up tonneau cover that doesn’t require removing the rails?

The bed rails are only 10 total bolts. That's about as simple as it gets.

I'm on my second literider cover. The first one last 11 years.

I'm going to guess his issue is the same as mine, I still want to be able to use the factory rails when my tonneau cover is up or off. but constantly removing them putting them back in is tedious and really not worth it

Why wouldn't you be able to use the rails?

What prevents you from using the rails with the literider?

I have a Gator brand fold up cover. Uses existing side rails for mounting.

as stated above, if a particular cover requires you to remove the rails to mount it, you then would not be able to remove the rails because they would be sitting on the garage floor or in your basement etc. Lol

Well I guess I have been doing it wrong these last 12 years as I've had a literider and use the rails as shown in my pic.

Cool. Different covers use different mounting systems. OP was asking about options on one that allowed him to keep the rails.

I just purchased the truxedo Lo Pro. Haven't received it yet but you are supposed to be able to use the rails as stated by Jake72 above. Also it has a lifetime warranty.

Seems like I may also have a coupon for 10% off coupon that should work for the truxedo if you decide to go that route I can email it to you

For installing the LiteRider, the rails have to be removed to install spacers and the tonneau rail behind the stock rails. I just installed the tonneau, and was able to keep the attachment points on the rails. It actually looks like I can slide them around too. Install isn’t too bad, but more work than I had anticipated. In my original post I was referring to the fact that they have to be taken off to mount the tonneau rails behind them.

Decided to keep it because seller was going to charge me a 20% restocking fee plus shipping both ways to return it!
