It's been raining non stop here since I got it so I haven't been able to take any pictures. Take a look at this thread though -https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oem-tonneau-cover-install.444415/. You can keep the same bed rails your truck came with but you will need to cut them to fit the locking pins for the tonneau. Hope this helps.

The diamondback cover is sprayed with a bedlinen line x yes it is the same as what you are talking about but what I don't know is the cover is avail in sprayed or alum I bet you could spray it yourself it is only sprayed on the exterior it is hands down the best cover on the market it just has so many apps and mounting acc the best part is the weight it can hold so its your hunting deck/ leisure deck etc

Carbon black tailgate Tacoma insert. Red Tacoma dash insert. Winco Infrared reducing window tint. Predator steps.
I went with bak x2 revolver because i wanted almost all bed space usable when tonneau cover is rolled up. The tri-folds either fold and stack at front of bed and cause you to lose bed space or fold up against back window and reduce visibility. That eliminated this type for me. Revolver rolls up but has metal slats under vinyl for better theft protection and strength.

Love the automatic retracting covers some of you have but the storage box they slide into at front of bed takes up too much space for my purposes

The bed rails on the 2nd gen are a different shape and the bolt holes for the mounting brackets are missing, will not work

I’m in the market for a cover. I’m leaning towards a hard cover but still entertaining a vinyl roll up. Like so many others, I want to use my bed. Most seem to use the bed rails to mount track. I think it’s the Bak that uses a bracket that mounts the new factory rail back in truck but lower. A local dealer sells Undercover Tonneau covers. They have 3 different ones on display (those mini display models), all are same price installed. When I checked online prices, the covers are around $925 shipped to me. They will provide & install cover for $975. Must be a ton of mark-up on these or they are super simple to install. My question- does anyone have a list of what covers allow use of the factory rail system? What covers are the easiest to remove without having to adjust the whole fit each time? Do any of these covers not leak? Anyone running that retractable cover (don’t need power), can they be stopped & secured in any position? How do they hold up to dust & debris? The more I read, the more confused I get.

A few of my thoughts on tonneau covers:

    1) Bak, Extang, Truxedo, Undercover, Bedrug and who knows what other brands, are all owned by one company, so just be aware.

    2) Anyone should be able to install a tonneau cover. Save money and do it yourself

    3) Not all Trifolds fold up against the back window. The Toyota OEM one does not, as example.

    4) I have a Bak Revolver X2. It rolls up within 8-10" of the back window, allowing almost full access to bed. The Bak Revolver cannot be stopped and secured in any position. It's either fully open (secured with straps) or closed. It does lower the factory bedrails, by the use of brackets, but because of this, you cannot use the Toyota factory bed divider, if you have that. Some of the Bak Trifolds also lower the factory rails. The cover can be fully removed by removing four bolts (PITA I would think, if you wanted to do regularly)

    5) The Bak Revolver tends to freeze along the side and back seals in wet freezing weather. Should not be a consideration in warmer climates. Something to consider when looking at covers

    6) I think all covers (maybe not a Diamondback) leak - some worse than others

    7) Had an Undercover Flex on another truck. Small screws holding the latching wire assembly etc. were constantly coming loose or falling out. Cheap design.

    8) If you need to worry about hail - check the material used for covers. Some are stronger than others.

My 10 cents. Good luck deciding on a cover!

I researched bed covers until I was blue in the face, like everything else I buy. I decided to go with the Truxedo roll up. It was only $248 bucks at 4wheelparts and they had it the following day. It rolls up easy and pretty much out of the way, 3 small clamps don’t take up much real estate on the bed rails. I like it a lot and looks clean rolled out or up.

I wanted a good roll up tonneau. I narrowed it down to TruXedo Lo Pro, or undercover Lorado. After reading exhaustively about the two, I went with the Lo Pro.
Lifetime warranty, use of the cleat rails without removal, automatic tensioning, 15 second removal of entire cover, and a guy who sells and installs both said he’s seen fewer warranty claims on the TruXedo. Both good roll ups, though. I love the lower profile. 9CE4270B-A2B2-4FA0-8ABD-5D1B39214300.jpg

I bought the same one last month and I love the look and functionality of it. Leaks a bit however I didn't install the front seals and the rear seal doesn't completely sit flush with the tailgate.

Don't forget about the rebate Truxedo has right now on the Lo Pro.

Yeah, sent mine in! I did install the front seal on the header bar. Only took a few minutes. If you do, be careful not to strip the Torx fasteners. I heard it’s easy to do. Mine weren’t a problem. Haven’t had any rain or snow since I put mine on. Few weeks ago, so not sure about the watertightness.

I developed an a little issue with my Truck Covers USA roll-up tonneau. I ran it through the carwash a couple days ago and today I tried to open it but the release mechanism is frozen. Not a big deal because I was only trying to get easier access to the front of the bed, but if I needed it open to haul something big I would've been screwed. I'll probably have to wait until it sits in the sun for awhile and then work the mechanism and maybe spray it with some WD or silicone...

Just installed an undercover flex hard folding cover. Install was straight forward. Seems to be of decent enough quality, fits flush, even adds to the look of the truck. Someone mentioned above the small screws holding the release wire/latch assembly coming loose and the cover being a cheap design, time will tell I guess but initial impressions are good.

Recently ordered a diamondback cover. Can’t wait to get it in. It will basically make the entire bed an aluminum tool box, but also with the option to haul big items.

So you've had no problems with the Lo Pro or with ordering from truck alterations? They're cheap but their really basic (kinda 1995ish) website worries me. You recommend? Also, totally bummed I missed the $40 rebate...

Yeah I had no problem at all. I know what you mean about the look of the website but I would recommend buying from them.
