Going to have to pull the the timing cover and make sure everything is lined up. From what I can tell the only thing that times a VE pump is having it indexed to dots and letters on the gear at tdc compression. I gather that the p pump may very.

From there timing is measured from the back of the pump with a sst dial indicator to measure lift. Meh Ill just set it pretty neutral and see how it runs slightly advanced from there. That doesn't quite make sense to me though now that im reading it. If rotating the pump can advance timing then the pump has to be timed?

Okay, think I have a better idea of what's going on now. Going to work through a couple things and go from there.

Yes I used a coat hanger, pliers, a punch, hammer, and red loctite.

No, pulled the pump top, replaced the throttle shaft bushing and seal, swapped governor springs. Hardest part was getting the idle screw out of the way to get to one of the pump top bolts.

Waiting on these guys to answer me back. Theyre saying keyway shkuld be at 10 at TDC and mines at 7 o'clock position...

Well doesn't look promising... can't see that theres anything wrong with timing.

Keyway lines up with mark on pump face, it's all facing the right way for a 6bt. Pump gear timed to 'E'.

So... thoughts now, pump internals fucked -- doubtful, it's throwing fuel at the injectors comparable to any other cummins I've seen.
headgasket? -- I do have shit in my oil but dunno if it's residual or what. Truck hasn't run much (if you call that running) so seems kind of odd. Not getting oil in coolant, not getting bubbles in coolant, not getting smoke in exhaust. Could still be leaking into oil though, haven't checked for excessive blowby because it doesn't run for fuck. seems plausible this is what's happening. Original oil was black, could be headgasket went to shit after sitting...
injectors? -- maybe... seems unlikely to me but could be...

    or???

I didn't get to talk to the guy, out of town, but he left me notes on every injector.

scoped out the cylinders, man I tell you what, bore scope what handy tool man you know what I'm sayin? Mighty nice of my buddy to let me use it when he just bought it.

All the pistons look good except number 1 looks like it's coated in oil and water or something, but it wasn't firing anyway, that injector was fucked. Can still see cross hatch in all cylinders. Everything looks cool. Took a bunch of snapshots but have to get the images off the SD card, and I dunno how the fuck to do that...

Stuck it in the oil pan but I could only see main caps or something, IDK. Hard to make shit out. Have to get pretty close for the LEDs to work. Cool tool though. Glad the pistons and cylinders weren't fucked.

I'm hoping if I do have a coolant leak it's either the head gasket or the oil cooler.

I'll try to post pictures later.
