My second oil change is approaching in my new to me 2012 6 cylinder. From reading past threads synthetic seems like a good choice. It seems like the guys who made the switch did it within the first or second oil change and its recommended to make the switch early in the life of the engine. I'm 99% sure that switching to synthetic now will not cause me any problems, and I'll get laid more!!! I have 47,000 miles on the truck.

I switched after a year or two - only problem I didn't get laid more - I must have missed something - please explain how this works as I'm coming up on my next oil change in a week or two. Thanks for you help in this very important matter.

Backt, your experience mirrors mine to a great extent. I also noticed an increased frequency of getting laid after switching to synthetic. Not only that, but after I switched my wife's car to synthetic, she says she's getting laid more as well.

All synthetic means is man made. Which means your synthetic oil is the regular oil you recycled at your local auto parts store, or its the recycled oil of your local quick lube shop. As for brand...... There are only 5 oil companies, every bottle of oil is from one of them, only thing different is the additives. It's not like chevron and bp get their oil from different dinosaurs. It's all the same crap. Changing from fresher dinosaur decay to recycled dinosaur decay won't hurt anything, even if you go back to fresh, won't hurt.

I've notice this on allot of forums about what kind, what's the best, priestess bottle, best sales pitch! They all meet today's car manufactures specs. So unless someone has a special low price, I go with Walmart brand of $17.50. Save the change for another Truck!

I agree that oil is oil and the additives are what really make the difference. At the end of the day it all comes out of the ground.

As far as flavor, M1 and Penzoil seem to be popular but like billybob50 said, get whatever is on sale.

I do have one question though. Why do the VAG group of cars, BMW, Mercedes and now some Jeeps ask for Castrol Edge Syntech?

Contract negotiations. Even Chevy has one if you get a vet. The oil companies pay high end dealers a kick back for using more expensive oil... Otherwise that oil would be a dust collector on the shelves cuz who's gonna pay $80 for an oil change unless they are afraid it will void the warrantee.

I use Mobile 1 Full synthetic, I like it, although this last time I had to use Royal Purple because the BX didnt have any 5w30 for Mobile1 lol, my engine has about 146K miles on it right now and I swapped around 130k but I have only had the truck since 120K. Runs awesome

A little of this and a little of that.
Look, the real question here is...just how much more do you want to get laid? You're just trying to confuse the 3rd Gen guys with this synthetic oil non-sense. If you have the skewp on your hood, you're already getting 75% more action than anyone without skewp. Let's not be greedy. (I voted Mobil1)

I put AmsOil in my Tacoma when I got it at 72,000 miles. No problems. I change it once a year. It used less than 1/4 quart in 5000 miles.

I have also put AmsOil in other vehicles with lost of miles without problems.

Choosing an oil reminds me of when I renovated my house and went to the tile store to choose tiles.:frusty:
