Yup! The reports I got using the Pennzoil were much better than the Mobil 1.

At least this, and the 100 other threads like it, are still more useful and sane than the 3rd gen forums.

I feel that the benefits of any particular synthetic over another are so close that the average driver can't tell the difference. One oil may have better properties in one test while another has better properties in another. So it comes down to use. If you are the kind of person who forgets to change the oil, get the longest OCI oil there is. If you are the OCD kind of person that counts down the tenth miles until their 3000 mile oil change then you probably could use the cheapest generic synthetic and have just as clean of an engine as the person running the most expensive synthetic changed at its recommended OCIs. When I know its time to change the oil I look for specials on oil at Walmart and the auto parts stores. I buy whatever name brand synthetic that's on sale. As for filters, I go on bitog forum because people post their dissections of their filters and show what filters work and which don't. I always thought more expensive filters were better, wrong. Some "luxury" brand filters are just rebrands of "ecomony" brand filters.

IIRC there are now only three different filter producers on the market.

Can we start another discussion, like oil filters who likes what and what color oil filter? I remember about 28 years ago consumers report did a test on oil and filters. They poured talcum power into the oil to see which one filter best at that time Fram oil filter came out on top! Now it seems each manufacture sells good, better, and it's going to coast you an arm buddy!

There is a thread on here where someone did a compare. In that test it seemed the OEM filter was as good as any of the more expensive brands.

Cutting it open and looking at the guts to me isn't good enough. Consumers Report actually measured what filter out the fine particles.

I remember my first car used with 40,000 miles in 1970 the previous owner had installed a gadget, toilet paper for a filter. When I changed the oil it look like I had just changed it even after 3,000 miles! Only thing I hated was the mess it made when removing the toilet paper. They still sell the kits after all these years! http://www.frantzoil.com/FAQ.html

I'm sure everyone should be running a filter with a higher micron size so it lasts that wrong, right? I mean the point of the filter is for it to let more crap get by and back into the engine so I can spend less money on filters and more money on Amsoil, right?

    Wait...

I would pay to see the look on a dealers face if a car came in on trade with a toilet paper filter.

They can't make any money off of you if you used toilet paper. Changing the oil and filter on a regular basic is a good thing.

I don't think that will be the dealers concern.

As for the second part I never disagreed with that, and I never would. I do 5K changes with synthetic oil and an oversized oil filter. Is it overkill? Maybe. Does it keep my warranty intact? Probably, but with my mods who knows. Does it give me a good feeling every 6 months? Yep.

To the OP, historically speaking after a certain amount of years ANY type of lubrication will get you laid more. Your welcome, have a great day. As for truck oil, who really cares if your getting laid more? Moving on....

Well, that's all just fine and good Gatordog, but sense you're the expert on this, my wife wants to know if it'll get her laid more to.
