Hey guys, just want to run this by the committee...

I'm currently running toytec/5100s up front at 2.5" and 5100s in the rear with a 1.5" single AAL. I have 130k on my 2012 DCSB and I'm considering upgrading to kings up front, dakars in the rear with the extended length 5100s. All in all it will run about $2100. I do 95% of my driving on the highway back and forth to work, about 100 miles per day, and I love off-roading and taking hunting/fishing trips when I can. Would I be crazy to spend this kind of cash when there's nothing wrong with my current setup? Do I have too many miles to bother with the upgrade? Are kings okay for daily driving?

    Thanks!

I'm definitely keeping it. It's in good shape and paid off. Do performance c/o's need rebuilt often with mostly highway driving? should I expect normal life out of them, like when I would have to replace my 5100s?

It's your money. If you can swing it and want them then get them! I've went back and forth for months on what I'm going to get. I'm torn between 2.5 Fox's and a AAL or a full OME kit. The Fox's might ride better but I'm scared of corrosion and having my truck down if they need serviced. In the end as much as I want some sexy looking coilovers under the front I'm going to keep it simple and just go with the OME kit. All the trails around me are slow going with mud and rocks so I won't ever be getting the full potential from a performance coilover. Just my .02.

This is kind of where I'm at. I don't do anything that my toytec/5100 setup won't get me through and for that kind of coin I could get 886s and some armor! Decisions...

Thanks for all your input gents.

My suggestion is to always functionally build for how the vehicle is used 80% of the time, and if you catch some visual changes you like along the way, good for you.

Considering your description of the use of the truck, you're already over built.

But as others have said, it's your call. You asked for opinions, I offered one, based on practical application and economics. Not everyone's choice of criteria. :D

Like others have said, it really comes down to you!

If you have the $$, go for it.

Do you need it? No...I think your current set up is just fine. 90% of aftermarket mods are never needed. Want? Of course!!

If you are 100% ready for some King 2.5's, hit me up!

    Thanks

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it won't improve your truck's usability, and you're happy with how it rides, I suggest to just keep things the way they are. $2,100 is a lot of money. Also, there are other mod options out there if you're just looking to improve your truck.

Upgrade it! Night and day difference. 5100s are lame. Youll notice difference right away. Get the kings in the rear too. Don't cheap out on a set up like that. IMO

So just a quick update... I haven't made a decision on the front coilovers yet, but I blew a 5100 rear shock this weekend, so I ordered a set of the 5160's with the reservoirs and a headstrong progressive AAL. Should be a nice upgrade. Since I already have total chaos UCAs installed, looks like kings or icons will be in the near future.

Well, after talking with Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road i switched to icons in the rear with the HS 3 leaf progressive. Looks like I'll make the jump to icon extended travel in the front this summer. Pretty excited about the upgrades, thanks to everyone for their input!
