Too many TAILGATES!

Naw, it breaks with a twist of a screwdriver.

I did the washer mod over the cable eyes- it helps slow down removal, and also bought a Sabelco hinge lock after I tried and saw how easy it is to pry off the hoseclamp.

Why steal a tailgate??

 

Assuming because they're easy to take off and turn around for a couple hundred bucks

 

But do people really buy tailgates that often? I feel like it’s an odd thing to steal and try and sell.

 

Well, if it gets stolen I'm sure the person would look to buy a used one rather than pay their deductible or the price of a new one.

I wonder how many people have actually bought their tailgate back without even knowing.

 

Someone stealing your tailgate, Yea it's the world we live
Put a hose clamp on it, or buy a lock, keep the tailgate locked.
Park your truck in your garage, put a fence around your property with a locked gate.
If you don't take these precautions than don't wine when your tailgate gets ripped off.

yeah happened 2 blocks away a couple of weeks ago...yeah socal...
by stealing them they are creating the market
i quickly did the hose clamp thing, but they gotta be on to that...
what's the best longer term mod/solution?

 

Maybe try out that lock? Seems legit

There I just bought a damn tailgate lock. I've been thinking about for awhile, just pulled the trigger.

There was a thread where a guy put a alarm sensor (Push pin) so when it opened it was like opening the door.

 

People who's tailgates have been stolen buy them obviously.

 

Beat them to the punch, sell it and get a swing out.

 

It is defeatable, but hopefully enough of a deterrent to get the bad guy to look at the next truck.

 

My impression was the OP was hyping up stolen tailgates just to get people to post about the hinge locks and drum up business.

 

Word, just a few small dings and it gets a pass from theifs.

 

Wonder if any thief has installed that cap after tailgate removal ?
If that wouldn't piss you off even more.
