My dad liked to think he was very progressive and would let us drink wine or anything if we asked.

He used to have scotch nights, and every time the boys would have me sample with them.

I had no idea what the water was for, so I'd slam the shooter back and start the dance of pain, like a monkey for their entertainment.

My first no-parents-party I Was the only one to show with booze, because my dad made sure I had something to bring.

Big thing is parents involvement, every strategy is different, but as long as the parents give a hoot, it usually turns out fine.

It was easy enough in Texas, we had county line gas stations that made their business from desperate kids, and if that failed there was always Mexico. Roommate in my freshman year started a fistfight on the international bridge between Del Rio and cuidad Acuna at 2 AM. The fight actually spilled over the yellow line that marked the border. That was a wild night.

I used to get my mom and her husband to buy me and my buddies 40's of King Cobra. We'd plug in our guitars and play all night getting hammered.
Went down to mexico a few times to drink as well. It was safer back then

    Everyone has a story...

I had more party attendance in Jr High...it was almost absurd.

Here we come to a party with Malt Liquor and the girls are drinking vodka.

    I'm like...WTF?

I've read all the way here and now I have no idea what we were talking about.... :smash:

Since I am here... I do want to say that Rolling Rock, as I recall, tasted like it had saccharin as one of the main ingredients... :drunk:

Not too many replies...but, that's ok...you roughed it! lol

I did not notice the ingredients in Rolling Rock.

That was such a long time ago.

Glad I did not drink it religiously.

The more I think about it the more distant it feels. We carried driver's licenses "just in case," but 90% of the time nobody even bothered checking ID. They would ask two questions at most and wave you through. We grabbed a taxi to ride in, but walked back out. I remember someone asking about Boy's Town, and the driver knew what was up. He excitedly said he could take us there. Someone else asked about the donkey show, and I swear to this day, I saw the driver's shoulders visibly slump. "Oh no," he said mournfully, "the donkey died."

I never made it to Boy's Town. :anonymous:

We wound up instead at some place called the Up and Down Bar, and that became our favorite. Weird place. You enter, and the ground floor is just a narrow ring around a wide unguarded pit of a basement. (There were railings around parts of the pit - parts, not all.) The bar is on the opposite end of the pit along with a rickety ladder. If you wanted to dance you slid the firepole into the basement. A perfect place to get hammered.

That would be Iron City, yinz…(though we lived closer to Rolling Rock in Latrobe) the river than ran through there used to be orange with sulfur contamination from the slag dumps. Thought it was funny when that stuff became a yuppie beer there for awhile.

I'm glad we all have good stories to tell.

Those triggers that cause these "side bar" conversations are beneficial...in my opinion.

    It's only Human Nature.

What else are we going to do, talk about trucks or something? This site isn't about that at all.

I hate it when drunk people walk up to my truck and ask me what beer I like to drink in it.

In the good old days when we were underage, Pennsylvania used cardboard for driver’s licenses, no photos etc.

We used to be able to use a razor blade to gently scratch out the birthdate, and then a fine edge pencil to write in a new fake one showing that we were 21 … worked every time when trying to get into bars and/or buy liquor at State stores…oh my, what memories.
