Don’t you think that if the engine oil had not been drained, and the OP added 6.2 quarts, the oil level would have been a hell of a lot higher on the dipstick? I mean come on.

Or, OP added the first gallon of oil somewhere else, turned around to grab the 1qt bottle, and emptied it into the engine, making the dipstick 1-1.2 qts higher!

Ah yes, the requisite 5hr dipstick tube drain, totally necessary.

At the end of the day, shit happens. You are about to change it again. I would change it when warm, leave the drain plug out and the fill cap removed with the filter off for 15 min while you enjoy a beer. Throw the filter on. Install the drain plug and fill with 6 fresh quarts and move on. That .2 is not worth cracking a new quart. Next time you go for a drive go check the dipstick 15 min after you get home and see where it is. If it looks weird check it again after its cold.
Good call on the Amsoil. That is what I use and I only buy the quarts. Amsoil gallon jugs are a PITA. Super short and hard not to spill unless you use the spouts. Not worth the trouble in my opinion. I assume you buy in bulk and its easy to lose track when you have a bunch of oil on the shelf. I always pull what I need and set it on the engine cover or radiator support before I start. And if you have not purchased the little Amsoil 3 pack disposable funnels. Get those, they are freaking awesome.

I just checked my level after reading this thread.
First look, it was just a hair below full.
I had put 6 pts in a few weeks ago.
After checking and re checking several times the level was higher.
I'm pretty sure each time the stick gets pulled it brings oil up the tube which gives you a false reading.

I use super tech. You’re wasting money though. Can I buy Amsoil stock? If so Amsoil is the best oil only use that.

My truck is the worst vehicle I have ever owned when it comes to checking the oil level. Always reads high after an oil change whether I did it myself or the dealer did it. I think a 4.0L V6 specifies a 5.5 qt capacity with filter. If I do this, it's always over the top dot. --ALWAYS--. Even after installing a new dry oil filter. I finally gave up and now just pour in exactly 5.0 qts from the big jug. The dip stick still gives me fits: half-way between the dots, on the top dot, a little over the top dot. Sometimes the stick is smeared with oil 4 inches up. Every previous vehicle I have owned, if it says 5.0 qt with filter capacity and you pour that amount in: it was at the "full" mark when you check it.

The manual says "between the dots" is normal. At some point about two years I decided to just move on and do the checks in the morning cold before I start it. If it's between the dots: I'm good. I think if the truck was sitting higher in the back than the front by a mere 1" overall, when I checked it: It would read a quart high.
    YMMV

Verify/Check the blinker fluid level and inspect the revacillator (located above the fuel tank) for any evidence of coolant contamination.

I pay $6.49 a quart for Amsoil shipped to my door. It is not as expensive as you might think if you are a dealer. And being a dealer is not very hard. I order for myself, family and friends. That gives me the volume to be a dealer and not have to pay for it and we all get superior products for less than what most people pay for lesser quality at Walmart. Plus I order all the gear oil we need. Hell, I even order my brake clean by the case. Several friends have diesels and they use the diesel additive. I also order the gas fuel additive and use that once every 5K. Many benefits to using superior lubricants. And you don't have to get fleeced to do so.
I keep a decent line of product on hand. Friends, neighbors and family stop by and I sell them what they need at cost. I keep the cabinet on my workbench stocked with several popular weights of oil, 0W20, 5W30, 5W20.
To get dealer pricing with Amsoil you just have to spend $500 a year and shipping is free on anything over $100. Pretty simple. Most everything I order I get the next day.

    Yeah.
Amsoil is certainly good oil, but I'll stick with Supertech, annual oil changes, 6.2 quarts, and not worry. I just do what the manual says on all my vehicles. Tacoma dipsticks, both 2nd and 3rd gen, have always been tough to get a good reading. Being a little low or a little high isn't a big deal. I don't even check it in between changes.

I’ve used Amsoil it’s a good oil but around $10 more for an oil change and I didn’t like dealing with getting it shipped in. I just pick up the super tech at Walmart with a filter. Then I can waste that $10 on losing lotto tickets.

Super tech is good oil. Both far exceed specs of what needs to be used. I just despise Walmart and try to avoid entering one at all costs. For me having it shipped to my home is much easer than dealing with going to WM. To each his own. If I frequented WM than this perhaps that would not be the case. Other than the fact that I am a brand whore and yeah well. There is that. The additional $'s spent is worth my personal feeling of superiority. JK.
