Looking to buy a 2nd gen and I found a nice 2012. There is some rust underneath (see photos).7BBDCF47-C643-4CC4-AFCF-9D362FF74339.jpg AC92D1E1-EC19-425A-9728-C200348A9909.jpg7881010E-9E64-4F7F-90EF-7497743D7517.jpg1CB60B2C-85FD-4EEC-B7E5-CDC84340A47B.jpg98B1FAE2-4DD1-4314-A646-53A19A441FDA.jpg It’s 2012 so no recall. I’m wondering if this rust is cosmetic or if I should avoid rust at all costs. What do you guys think? Thanks!

The 2012 would be included in the rust recall campaign (my 2017 was). However, I wouldn't call that bad enough for them to replace it. It mostly looks like surface rust. The skid plate looks the worst in my opinion and a bit of elbow grease would probably take care of most of that. Nothing appears to be structural yet from the photos.

That’s not bad at all. It does need to be under coated thought to stop the rust and protect it for the future.
If you live in the rust belt, undercoat it every fall.

Doesnt look too bad from what we can see. Probably could clean up a bunch of that surface rust, treat it, and be good

Bang on the frame all over with a hammer. Best we can do on here is just guess. Doesn’t matter what the outside looks like. Frames rust from the inside out, especially adjacent to the cat converters.

She certainly got the can-sa, but it looks like you caught it in time. If'n you buy it, you're gonna need to develop a rust abatement plan and spend some coin and elbow grease spiffying her up proper-like.
