This was off Hwy 6, Jordan Creek area, dry camping, no outhouses, bring your own. About 20 miles from the coast.

My reasons are fast easy set-up, flat level bed (4'8" x 8' x 3.9" in my case), pillows & bedding stay in the tent &

I'd rather be up off the ground for many reasons20180518_085133.jpg

Nah, these RTT's are everywhere--the south included. I think they're a monstrosity and overkill in most cases, but as I said above, another option that may fit others' needs better. At least they're better than having a 5th wheel park next to you.

But I grew up camping in a tent--coincidentally in the south. Camping isn't camping in a trailer or perched up 6 feet high on top of a vehicle/trailer. You go out in the woods and you sleep in nature--rocks, dirt and creepy crawly things. That's how I was raised. And gosh by golly, my kids are going to grow up sleeping on the ground!

Sweet set up OP. Looks great. Bet the country is real nice out there. I'm in the north East over here.

Love my rooftop tent. We still have our ground tent for remote camping. But we use the RTT at least 20 times a year.

Basically when even some of the more rugged campers call it quits because of snow or rain, we still stay out for days because it doesn't bother us. It's great.

Never understood why people say things are bad because they don't use it or isn't good for their specific lifestyle.

That's what's known as the Different Strokes Principle.
Or as I like to call it the Goldilocks Paradox
I don't wanna sleep on the ground.
I don't want a big ass trailer to haul around
This one's just right (for me) < and that's what it's all about what ever works for you

Yeah beats me. I mean the last trip I went on put me about 150 miles from the closest human being. But I guess since it was in an RTT it's cheating or doesn't count?

We go fishing a lot. And the best fishing is remote fishing. It's nice to travel spot to spot and under 2 minutes the tent is set up.

I'm also a pipe welder. After a 70+ hr work week of hard labor , and knowing I'll need to go back to another 70+ hr work week, I don't want to go messing my body up even more sleeping on the ground every week like I used to for decades. it's not a luxary I have.

But I digress. Keep us updated on your trips OP!
    Btw here's mine setup

We have a Springbar too, but... Pulled up long after dark, threw out the yellow leveler wedges, backed up on them to level in less that 1 minute, popped open the RTT in 3 minutes and threw kid and dog inside, had a starry night cold one outside with my wife, went to bed and woke up to this:

Now if we were base camping and hanging out a few days in the same place, it would have been the Springbar instead. But for nomadic trips where every night is at a new location, RTT’s are great!

Buddy is my new companion. I got him when we was 10 months old in Feb.
    He loves camping & swimming

I live in what's know as high desert (house is at 4200') in NW Nevada (by Lake Tahoe & Reno).
Around me I have both mountain & desert. I like to go camping where there is water.
1st two are at and is about 45 min from my house & we were right on the water there.
Friends toy hauler/camper is behind me flying the flags. See the tall tree?

That's it at the water's edge in this pic
    20180527_201156.jpg
Next one is at and about 2 hours away
Last one is at also about 2 hours away
    20180803_161300.jpg
That's my portable pizza oven so I can make 2 minute pizzas from scratch while camping & at home
    DSCF4936.jpg
This one's my dough topped with my sauce, then mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage & bacon. It gets mostly cooked then I add a 5 Italian cheese blend on top & give it a few more seconds cook.

I think the pass on 80 is around 7200'
Not sure on the mountains (8K?)
    Lake Tahoe is around 6500'

Sorry OP for the side trip here, I recently came through that pass on I-80 towing and had “stumble”! Anyways, reflashed and all fixed now.

Another nice thing about RTT’s is that ours has extended our camping season- it really holds up well to winds like my Springbar, but also stays so much cleaner and no mud tracks in!
