I'm looking for a decent price tool box for my 01 dc tacoma. Have any TW members put a tool box in their 1st gen dc tacoma and what brands would you recommended. I was thinking about buying a camper shell but my budies have had so many jokes on tacoma with camper shells. They said a pick up truck with a camper does not look any different from an old tortious that drag his shell across the horizone and this has turn me away from buying a camper. So will get a tool box instead. Your inputs are greatly appreciated, thanks

get what you think works best for your needs and to hell with others opinions. a camper on yours is a great idea because after you put a tool box in there you wont have a bed left anyway but why not compromise and put a hard top on the bed to get the best of both, full bed access yet still have locking storage and the truck still has the same look to it.

FWIW I have a toolbox because I didn't used to like the shell look.
I now wish I had a shell to maintain bed space and as a space to sleep. I have an ext cab and and the box cuts off like a foot or more of bed space, few things fit without the tailgate down. However the toolbox was like $120 compared to a color matched shell...
Just some stuff to think about

I bought a Trail FX one. Black powder coated. Love it. Has a little tray that sits on top of everything for smaller items. I paid around $300 for it. Also bought some clamps for it do I didn't have to drill into my bed. Yes it does take up the bed, but if have a bed extender so its not like I lost anything :)

I did a Kobalt bow from Lowe's. I did the slimline, which saved a little room in the bed. It holds all my regular tools plus a bugout bag. Several companies sell a slimline version. Look into them.

Forgot to mention i also have a bed extension thats why i want a tool box i figure it would still leave some room for junks.
The slimline would be the 1st options.

They are right. No need for a tiny canopy on those tiny DC beds. They should have skipped the mini bed setup and just made it a six door truck(six pack) with a big back bumper.

It's a Trail Fx. Bought it off of eBay from some company I've never heard of. First one they sent me was damaged to shit. This one has 1 or two dents. Nothing to worry about. If I remember correctly, it was about $300 for it. Powder coated ones are much more expensive than the chrome, but I wanted something that would blend with the truck. I love it. Has a little tray that sits above everything for smaller items.
