I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
your sig always catches my attention for a solid 5 minutes every time I see it. Seriously, its like her ass notices you staring first, and then perks up to tell its owner "hey, dude is staring at me again!"

    OP,

Get both. I got a used UWS for a good price, and I got a cheaper (lund) tonneau cover. Takes me about 20 minutes total to remove one for the other. however, if you are talking about a high quality lockable hard bed cover, then I say tool box.

I got an undercover tonneau cover. I carry 2 toolboxes, a recovery kit, 2 bugout bags, electronic equipment. The tonneau basicly makes the whole bed a locking tool box.

I order the Bak Flip F1 and the Bak Box seemed like the best answer for me. They do ship to Canada for $50.00 you will need a tailgate lock as well. Pop n Lock is a Canadian Company in Welland, ON I ordered their power tailgate lock works with the keyless entry. Pop n Lock has a manual version that uses a key as well. Bak flip will give you about 10% off if you order both items.

Not saying it is the best for you but it's the way I went.

    Good luck!

I have a solid box strapped down in my cap. Before that I had a DeeZee tool box on the back. If you get a tool box, go low profile unless you have a backup camera, pain to see over (I prefer back window to mirrors). It can be done but you have to sit real tall!

I have BOTH...got an Extang express cover custom cut by Extang (no charge) to fit behind the box. Cover is 3 years old and works/looks great.

Do not for a MINUTE think the tonneau helps MPG - you will not see one ounce of increased MPG. You'll get better mileage by changing the way you drive and save $400 on a tonneau...

I'm not sure which post is more wrong, this post or the guy who said tonneau's decrease your ability to carry things. With my open bed I was getting about 300 miles to a tank, after I put the tonneau on I've been consistently getting 340-350 miles per tank. Granted, 40 miles isn't much of an increase but it IS and increase.

I really don't understand the person who said a cover limits what you can haul. I've got an Access velcro one and it rolls up in just a few seconds so front to back it doesn't take up any room. OK, it might take away 2 inches in width because of the cover's rails hanging out but I can't think of a scenario where that would make a difference in what I could put back there.

I sold the tool box that came with my truck and bought a tonneau. I keep plastic bins in the bed for carrying stuff and a cross bar bar to keep them from moving. The whole bed is locked via a pop n Lock and the cover locks and I can lock up larger items.

I don;t see where the question is between the two. Both have to be removed t carry larger taller items. And the Undercover weighs so little and is a breeze to take off and hang on the wall.

With the LIGHTER Undercover tonneau. I get about 25-50 miles per tank more for what it's worth... I would never get those heavy fiberglass ones that need a pulley system to remove or a few people. .

For the few times every year I may have to carry something higher than the bed walls I can remove it in 5 minutes. And its far more secure than the Velcro models.

I too have an undercover tonneau. It is the best way to keep all the stuff in the bed secured. Removes quickly if you need to utilize the whole bed

I've decided to order a BAKFLIP F1 w/ BAKBOX (www.bakflip.com). I've been pondering the cap or tonneau decision for quite a while now. Friend has the G2 model and loves it.

That was part of my hesitation/pondering a tonneau or cap...didn't want to give up my toolbox for a tonneau or cap; or give up throwing my ATV in the bed when I didn't want to mess with the trailer.

Now that I found out BAK has incorporated a toolbox into there folding tonneau...I'm going that direction. Still a lot of money for the F1 model I want ($1400 delivered to Alaska), but I've made up my mind...just waiting to order later this summer after vacation; don't want it delivered when we're out of town.

Sorry, but even the Mythbuster guys debunked the tonneau/MPG claims.

Maybe you ARE getting more per tank, maybe you drive differently, who knows?

I'm getting just about the rated highway MPG putting me at just a shade over 400 miles/tank - same as I was getting w/out the tonneau...

But now I don't have to constantly clean leaves out of the bed of my truck.

I belive they just tested tailgate vs no tailgate and saw no difference. I didn't drive my truck long enough without a tonneau to gauge mpg but I like to think it belps :D

    Maybe you're right re: Mythbusters...

Anyway, after always finding my previous ride (94' Nissan Frontier) filled w/ leaves and, often enough, other peoples' discarded coffee cups and sandwich wrappers (!), the tonneau is a must have...and it certainly can't hurt MPG...

haha i just made the votes 72-71 for the tonneau:D

it depends on your situation, for me i got the undercover hard tonneau because i play ice hockey and i go to college and live in an appartment so i have nowhere to place/air my gear out so being able to lock my gear in my truck is a necessity
