You should be banned for that

although I did have Creed's first two albums back when I was a kid, I still think their first album My Own Prison was halfway decent.

Scott Stapp became a crazy religious zealot though and it got really old and kind of weird.

LOL! Scott Stapp lives about a 1/2 mile from me. :D A 1/4 mile from where Vanilla Ice (Robert VanWinkle) was charged with burglary. :p

You would probably like their earlier stuff, before they became more progressive especially with the instrumental/lyrical content and long songs. I can understand it's not something everyone likes and even for me there are times I just don't feel up for it.

Their early stuff is more heavy/alternative rock and much shorter songs. Check out Opiate, Undertow and some of the songs from Aenima are really good though some of them are on the longer side as well. But there were a few big radio hits off that album. Same with Undertow.

Also there's the band A Perfect Circle that Maynard from Tool is also the lead singer for, they're more alternative rock based. Depending on what you like some people prefer them over Tool. I was always more of a Tool fan but APC had a couple great albums as well. 13th Step was on repeat for me for months

Totally agree with Ryan about getting into Tool. Start with Undertow, which I think is the most “accessible” of their albums. (That was really the one that sent me over the edge into being a lifelong Tool fan). Otherwise, APC is more mainstream as well. Hard to go wrong with either one of the first two albums there.

Yeah I think it would be pretty difficult to introduce someone to Tool using this latest album lol. Same with the last one 10000 Days to a degree.

Been a fan of tool since the early 90's. But if the new album sounds like the first release then im in no hurry to hear it.

Think it depends which got you into it. I always liked them with undertow but aenima and lateralus is what really made me love them.

I bought the CD version for the nostalgia. I'm definitely digging it.

And for anyone fast forwarding through because the songs are 10-15 minutes long, this isn't the band for you. If you want catchy tunes and easy to remember vocals, hop on YouTube and listen to whatever is trending that day. Tool has always been best listened to on long road trips or sitting around the house.

I was kinda disappointed by this album. Every song sounds the same and all just kinda blends together. It's like they were trying to do too much and it all just came out mushed together into the same homogenous droning. It was a good album collectively, but I dont think it lived up to the previous albums where less was actually a whole lot more.

To me this album is like something you'd put on in the background, where as the previous albums I knew the lyrics to every song and could rock out in the car because they were very distinct and each song was immediately identifiable.

    Yeah.
I think that is a fair viewpoint. I think they kind of follow a similar recipe throughout the album, but I like how they blended some of their old defining sounds together into a new flow through the album. Definitely not an album you pull one song out of, like 46&2 or Eulogy or Schism.

They did say previously they wanted to make the album be one continuous song.

I personally love when bands pull stuff like that off.

Now that I’ve had time to listen to this album over and over all weekend, in my truck, in my living room, and best of all through some good headphones, I can say that I really like what they’ve done here. There is a lot to digest with this album and when experienced through good speakers it is tremendous, so much so that I pulled the trigger on better speakers for the Tacoma.

I love to see the very different opinions on this album! It just goes to show you how important music is to people and how passionate they can be about it. Me personally, I love this album. It still doesn't rank as my #1 TOOL album (Lateralus) but this could be a strong contender for second! I've pretty much listened to the album non-stop since last week and still not tired of it. To me, the drums are amazing and it really highlights what an amazing musician Danny Carey is. So far, Descending is my favorite song.

New album is pretty good- not as aggressive as past albums but I can still dig it. Have to sit down and really give it a listen. Hopefully it's not another 13 year wait to hear from them again.
