I want to put together a small toolkit to carry on my truck for tools I might need in emergencies (extra headlight bulbs, wrenches, fuses, etc). Just looking for suggestions as to what I should have. Something that’ll fit in a small box under the back seat

I would just start with the basics. Screwdrivers wrenches pliers wire cutters hammer, and build from there.

I'd throw in a OBD2 code reader as well, you never know if you need to check on codes that pop up.

Tire plug kit & small compressor. I’ve had several repairs where I picked up nails and sharp stuff and never even had to take the tires off the truck to fix them, just plug, refill and go.

I keep a harbor freight tool kit in the back lol, basically single use emergency tools, and if they get stolen its only $40

To add on this get the kind that clips to your battery compressors pull too much amperage and can burn up the thermal couple on the back side of 12v sockets in the cab.

Plus with this style it's easier to use your jumper cables (which you should also add to the list if you haven't already) to extend the power cables if you need to to reach the back tires or something without having to dismount tires.

Also a 4 way tire iron just for utility, I have used mine more to help people stuck on the aide of the road than for my truck and because they allow you to increase your torque and leverage considerably.

Another consideration a lightweight Aluminum floor jack from harbor freight.

I haven’t really looked at mine to evaluate it, however, generally, I look at what might most likely need repair. In the past, I have kept a breaker bar and socket for changing a tire, vacuum line, zip ties, a spare belt and whatever it takes to R and R the belt, code reader, pliers, screw driver, duct tape, jumper cables, gloves, wipes, tire plug kit, compressor, camp shovel, strap, and shackles. Zip ties, vacuum line, and pliers have been the biggest help.
If you are hard-core wheelin’ it you might take what it takes to change a u joint or a temp cv boot.
In more than 35 years of trailing, I’ve used very few of these things and on the Tacoma, there isn’t much you can fix road or trail side. Carefully maintaining your truck is the best prevention.
I carry more first aid and rescue stuff, like a halligan, bolt cutters, a good knife and a fire extinguisher.

That's not a fire extinguisher. Now this is a fire extinguisher!

Don't know if it's changed but on my 2010 Access Cab a 5-8lb fire extinguisher fits neatly and handily in the rear door pocket and isn't too likely to become a projectile.
