Maybe a small local group who all know of each other it might work.

2 people need the same tool. one of those few hour jobs can turn into weeks

Way back in the before-afore times, before my time even, they used to have these things called "car clubs." Being a member gave you access to a garage with bays and a bitchin tool set.

I bet with the cost of a modern oil change, a savvy business person could make a little bit of coin if they revived that idea from the dustbin of history.

About 20 years ago a coworker of mine and I tossed around that exact thought.

After digging into a warehouse with several bay spaces to rent out, routing wiring, plumbing air, tools, security, and such it was looking doable.

Then we went down the legal rabbit hole that included local and fed taxes, all the EPA requirements, insurance for us, the building as well as any occupants and their rigs, etc. It would be an act of god to make any money just to have a cool shop to "share".

We dropped that idea and went back to reality.

i remember a few places back in the seventies that you could rent the bay with access to the lift and tools.

I think it was insurance that killed them having strange clueless people the rates for insurance were crazy high.

Also the problems when things go south jobs don`t get finished .

Every one wanted the same hours scheduling was a nightmare .

Till everything was included there was little advantage to the end user cost wise.

Being in the seventies labor rates were cheaper who knows .

There are five in my house. Three full-timers and two fosters up for adoption. And also three dogs. I would like to keep the dogs.

    At least your thinking!!

I would rather buy a special Tool use it one time or not at all .

Then really need to use that tool and not have it.

That is me every one is different.

Just thought of something I could support this cause with.

I would be willing to loan out my wife's tool, as she isn't using it much anymore.
(Might need new batteries though). :rocket:

Well damn... after doing all the suspension and miscellaneous work on my truck, I could've maybe saved a few trips to Autozone because OP lives probably only a few miles away from me :D. Good to know there is a fellow TW member within probably a 5 mile radius.
