go with the HF one. they even have a 56" model. I have two older home depot ones and a new HF one and the HF one is thicker then the HD ones.

I got a Box!!! Viper Brand, really never even heard of them but they have good reviews, some say comparable to Snapon. I am not sure about that but this weighs 227lbs!

    40.5"H x 41.5" W x 18." D 9 Drawer rolling..smooth wheels with locks
Also came with matching color pre-cut drawer liners!!!!! Real nice touch and color matched tumbler keys.. When the draws are fully open there is no wiggle, they are Solid!!

Now for the color.. TEAL... I can live with it..There is a rolled lip on top 1/4 tall, i can place a piece of solid wood right on top & it will hold it in place so i can have a working table area too. I want to mount a small vice and grinder.

$400.... it is like NEW!!! :D

Nice box! I actually like the teal color... it reminds me of old American pickups from the early 50s.

    Wide rock crusher casters,,nice!

Knucklehead newbie down at work decided to show off his new double stack setup to the head mech. Yanked all the drawers open,,staggering them all cool like. Went to get the head cheeze to show him and his shit tipped over in the shop. CAAA-RASH!,,Scattered sockets,,bent pull outs, corners pounded in,,all tweaked, paint gone. Semi-complete Matco setup,,just out of the package,,$16K. Sad but so funny, and we got him to laugh about it later.

You are right, just needs nice wide white stripe somewhere..
    .
Got all my tools loaded in & loaded spray paint cans, spray lube cans, small cans of thinner in the bottom right draw, they all fit standing up and used the large deep draw for misc items...
Now i want to get a thick piece of wood for the top, mount a vice and small grinder set..

The rolled up drawer liners in the cabinet section of Lowes or home depot are pretty cheap too.

I got the huge kobalt chest and bought a roll for extra cushion on the top and the roll was like 5 bucks.

I was heading for the harbor freight line which is US general iirc (1of the few actual toolbox manufacturers in the world) and has good reviews, but a smoking deal, local access, and better customer service found the kobalt in the back of my truck.

Well, it needed 2 trips..... But u get the point.

I was all ready to get the 4 piece set from harbor freight but they couldn't even tell me when they could get 1 in, they couldn't hold it.... It was just stupid.

The kobalt does have double rails for the deeper drawers and larger center drawer... So far no issues besides loading and unloading it. Rolls like butter on the huge spring suspension casters too.

It was very strange. The top box tipped back,,its bottom back edge slid forward, caught the front lip of the bottom box, and shoved it forward and over. Folded accordion style,,in a way. The whole load dropped over about a 1' drop onto concrete. Some strange physics there we tried to decipher. We think it rolled forward a bit, dropped over the ledge, and went into collapse mode.

Jeezes! The other guy's are correct. Do not go over to the Garage Journal to get info on tool boxes! If you aren't going to buy SnapOn, you will be consiered shit!

As stated above, If you aren't in the trade, where you may be moving your tool box pretty regular, you don't need those hi dollar boxes. The 44" HF is a steal and the quality is great for the price. Unless you drop it off the back of your truck, you will have it for the rest of your life.

As for those ads on CL, those Jagoffs think their 15 year old SWnapOn tool boxes are worth way too much. Its a used tool box.

Watch the guys selling like new HF boxes as well. They will buy them new on sale and list them on CL for list price. You must compare prices closely.

That's a good idea. I don't know how yours looks but mine actually had some holes in the metal on top that looked like they were for mounting a standard vice. Also, in case you're interested, I ended up line-x coating the wood I put on top. It has held up really well to pounding and scraping with the line-x, plus I think it looks nice.
