Afternoon all! new here and bought my son a 2019 Tacoma that came with a camper shell. He wanted the camper shell taken off, sitting in the garage now HA!!, and wants to buy a toolbox. Any suggestions for really good toolboxes that fit the 2019?

    Welcome to TW!

I have had good luck with the DeeZee low profile black powder coat finish.

I miss my canopy. What about a decked drawer system and keep the canopy?

Same! Maybe it is my age, but I thought it looked good and was functional.

Super happy with my UWS low profile box. I should note that the rare times when my hands are full having a weather guard toolbox with the button you push in on the side would be very nice.

    check facebook marketplace.

truck toolboxes are like prom dresses. they get used once, and then are shoved in a corner full of regret and fond memories of what once was. they're usually cheap.

I will say that nothing is better than the Toyota box that they offered on the 2nd gen. It was about $700 but that was an outstanding box. I had one on my 07 and loved it. If you ever run across one of those I would pick it up. I did not like the silver lid so I got that powder coated black but nice box.

I'm a great believer in the crossbed toolbox. Also, not too impressed with the "low profile" versions - if you've got a use for one, capacity is a virtue. Be aware, it is an absolute necessity for the box to be securely fastened to the truck - some of the cheesy little J hooks can't be trusted to keep the box in place if the truck does some wild whoop-ti-doos. Also consider adding 12v power to the box - lighting adds a lot of utility to them.

Mine has an interior light bar, two external spots on the back, and some downcast porch lights on either side. The light switches are closed up in the box so only the main cable comes back from the breaker / battery.

Our service trucks at work also have rear facing spots - on angle brackets and 12v power sockets. So mine got the same treatment.

Note the padlock at lower left - the locks and latches that come stock on the boxes won't be much use in protecting your stuff.

fun fact, i've owned 2 different bed tool boxes, both specifically for a single cab ranger, to offer somewhere to put 'stuff' that the interior didn't allow space for given it's cramped sizing.

i've never spent more than $20 in total on them.

the first was a blow-molded plastic model, and the second was a nice diamond-plate aluminum model. the first one was actually a free garbage find, the second was the only one i put money into.
