Okay so I'm getting ready to trim my fenders to clear 35's. I'm just curious as to what tools those who have done it used and if they recommend them or if they were a pita. Not really wanting to just use a grinder and cutoff wheel because I know me and I have a tenancy to rush at times and have it get away from me. Hoping in the end to retain a somewhat factory type look and not make it look like someone did a hack job on my truck.

Also how much is everyone finding they need to cut off? I was thinking an inch and three quarters would be good

I would think a Dremel rotary tool would work well

I have a dremel that I used for trimming to fit my 33's. Went through a ton of blades that kept breaking and it didn't make a clean cut through plastic. Ended up just using my pocket knife to trim the flares.

Ah, good to know I was thinking of getting one to do some trimming of my own but I'll wait and see what others recommend.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
The plastic outer flares I used a razor blade and just scored it carefully until I had a groove then worked it deeper until I could cut through the plastic. It still came out rough as hell.

I actually need to cut the pinch weld (thin metal) so that probably won't work lol

Most guys take a big fucking hammer to the pinch welds then paint and cover it in a sealant.

I like the jigsaw. Seems like it would be good for the metal fender. Anyone used one?

Also anyone have pictures with trimmed fenders and 33s? Still have some tread on my tires and want to wait to get my new tires until right before the snow season so I may end up trimming mine months before getting my tires

I used a jigsaw on the fender flares and a grinder to do the fenders themselves

Dremel tool probably won't have enough power to get through it. I used an air tool with a cut off wheel

You can see pretty clearly in this picture how much of the inner plastic lining I've had to trim up, I also had to cut out the inside line of the plastic flare that has the holes for the mud flaps to hold onto.

Definitely use a jigsaw with a fine tooth metal blade. We went through 4 blades to do both of my rears, and that was honestly just me being over cautious and wanting the best cut possible. It took us maybe 10 minutes to cut them. I also took roughly 2.5-3" out of my fenders. I wouldn't have taken any less out. I still haven't done my fronts but will be doing them soon, with @rngr 's jigsaw again. lol
