I picked it up this afternoon and stainless steel bead blasted it to normalize the surface, and I'm starting to take off the manifold to install it...

Elapsed time from project conception to first prototype installation:

    ONE MONTH :)

    How did the spacer fit?...

    "Like a gluuve..."

    However...

The intake manifold is an octopus of tubing, so naturally moving it to a new location, nothing fits. A few of the tubes appear to be flexible enough to work, while others will need longer lengths to fit. I'll record in detail everything that needs alteration.

I would be down for one of these depending on gains and price. Already have the LCE.

Yeah, it could end up just being a nice looking paperweight. ;)
I do know this. Lengthening the runners on an intake manifold definitely changes the operating characteristics of the engine. Exactly what and how much I don't know. So that's what this is all about... finding out. :)

The engineer and I were talking about if the tooter spacer produces proven documented gains on the dyno, building more out of nylon instead of aluminum. So the prototype may be the only metal one. Man, is it heavy. It weighs four pounds.

If it is proven to make gains what would the price of an aluminum one be? I would prefer aluminum over nylon. Just my .02 Nylon is easier to work with though.

Yeah, Homer... so am I. :)
It's lots of fun exploring uncharted waters. I'm not certain of the effect. All I do know is that a larger heat sink is able to dissipate more heat. A non metal spacer would render the whole issue moot.

Running it on the dyno will provide us with useful "real world" results of how well it works, or even if it works at all.

    Beats me.
It's scary how little I know about this stuff.

The CNC machine uses exactly the same xyz coordinates to fabricate the parts, so both metal and non metallic spacers could be made.

I don't know that yet, as I need to find out if this concept will even work first.

This is actually not my decision what they're made out of. It's yours, because the customer decides what they want them to be made out of.

While the intake manifold was off, I took the opportunity to do a little light porting on it as it had these irritating bulges and casting seams on each side of the intake port...

    Thanks, man. :)

It's going a lot better than I had expected it would at first look...

    IMG_7163_zpsc1af534c_49f87b20d715c9d258ca59d52d2c287bd96ba79e.jpg

The manifold went on with a certain amount of pushing on all of the many surrounding hoses. It went in vertically back end first and then I rotated it to slide down over the studs.

Better than just adding runner length, the spacer adds more STRAIGHT runner length just before reaching the injector and intake valves. :)

    IMG_7170_zps1b1530fe_cbd613d9768b16bba5ac56dba8d7bae9e022792c.jpg

I also discovered that the hose mounting bracket mounting holes were offset enough to reverse them so that they would fit onto the relocated manifold without any stress on the hoses.

The throttle body plug is an obvious issue. I'm going to try unwrapping the loom just to see how much length can be freed up. It doesn't take much to reach the relocated socket.

    IMG_7165_zps1a7b4b2e_eb662266a89adf43a08352f204e772a96a950033.jpg

    IMG_7164_zps63a96842_13cdac15270d9bb5193e6444dcd72987264b6bd6.jpg

The rear throttle body coolant hose needed to be disconnected as it is in the way when you tighten up the nut on the rear stud.

Because the spacer exactly duplicates the perimeter of the stock manifold, is offers plenty of clearance for the fuel injectors and fuel rail.

    IMG_7169_zps79a3e61f_6c6f79880bc61879ea98efa8c556756bfab542b5.jpg

The bottom studs turned out to be the biggest issue as they do not point in exactly the same direction as the top studs, so as the manifold is moved outward sliding on the upper studs, the lower ones do not line up with the bottom holes on the manifold. I'll likely need to make two small plates with two holes in each plate, bolt the manifold on to the plates and use the lower holes to connect to the engine block. I can make them using the extra stock manifold, so I don't need to take this one off.

Dang if it isn't almost ready to run! :)
