    No but it is creating a ripple effect in the water. If you look close you can see it. The pilot is actually right on the verge of breaking the sound barrier. Air over the aircraft moves at different speeds. Faster, such as over the canopy, and slower, such as off the tail. While parts of the plane are breaking the sound barrier the whole thing isn't. That is what creates the visible "boom". When the entire plane is traveling faster than the sound barrier you won't see anything.

    I think...

    Or it might have something to do with temperature and humidity. I hated physics.

    It was just him kicking up water into a air cushion. No way that plane was going supersonic. If you have ever seen one in person its retarded how fast they are going. In the US the only place they can break the sound barrier is in the supersonic corridor. The Top gun guys used to do it all the time in China Lake when they came out for bombing practice. Its really something you have to witness in person to really get a feel for how powerful it is.
