    Any luck OP? I wouldn't have left the dealership until talking to every manager and making them check my brakes. You also should've asked them to show you any car on their lot, that have probably sitting there for weeks, that have the same problem.

    Also, both drums and discs suck. I wish Toyota would've put air brakes. Or electromagnetic brakes like trains...

    Lots of car companies still use drum brakes. It's all about standardization for like parts across multiple platforms.

    Had to share. Just replaced the brakes on our Mini yesterday. They are original 50K mile, and I just think the PO didn't treat them well. Maybe bad braking habits, coupled with them being salty and wet in winter. Once they start rusting bad, the pads no longer grind clean. The outside surface was marginally better and looked like the OPs, but the inside was pretty bad. Braking was still quite ok as we have been driving it for 7K miles since we bought it.
