A friend of mine (has tested with a 129 I.Q.), was in his RV trailer and the power was out. He had a Collman white fuel lantern, and it was working fine. Lantern ran out of fuel, and it was very dark. He tried to refil it but pilled the fuel everywhere. Tried again, but this time useing his Bic lighter as ilumination. BOOM! Now, he thinks he might want to try and sue Collman, since the warning couldnt be read in the dark.

^^that reminds me of another crazy story i heard about a lady that sued McDonalds because she burned herself with their coffee. She sued because there was no label saying that the coffee might be hot:rolleyes:

There is a huge difference in the two cases. Mcdonalds was shown to have known for years that the coffee was ridiculously hot. We are talking in excess of 140 degrees. The reasoning behind it was that they were giving away free coffee refills. Well, if the coffee is so damn hot you can't immediately drink it then you won't drink as many refills. So despite the numerous complaints over many years one of these cases finally got before a jury. The attorneys for the plaintiff had done their homework and found out that internal corporate documents existed essentially stating that Mcdonald's didn't give a shit if people got burned, as long as they were not having to give out more refills.

Mcdonald's got hit hard, not because some lady got burned by coffee. Rather, it was because they were putting profits above safety concerns they were aware of and choose to ignore. Same as the car manufacturer several years ago that ignored the gas tank explosions b/c it wasn't "Cost Effective" to recall and replace them.

The person suing b/c the writing is too small will go nowhere. I agree that some cases get out of hand and awards are too high, i.e. tobacco litigation. However, you live in a safer world b/c business is kept in check by trial lawyers to ensure that you aren't harmed to make a few extra dollars on a company’s bottom line.

Well, no. She sued because it seriously burned her. According to a few sites, she initially tried to settle with McDonalds to just cover her medical bills ($11,000) + $9000. McDonalds offered her $800. She received 3rd degree burns which required skin grafts. It was testified that because of the temperature they served it at (180 degrees F), the coffee only had to be in contact with her skin for 2-7 seconds to cause serious burns. Most restaurants serve coffee at around 140 degrees F. McDonalds kept it super hot because it made the coffee last longer.
