Soft topper is the way to go. Easy peazey. Hard Topper makes it where you can't haul tall things like appliances and dirt bikes. Might as well have an SUV of you have a hard topper, same function but a lot better access and sealing.

So my vote is open bed or soft Topper

Either you need one or you don't. It isn't jewelry like light bars.

Depends entirely on your needs. So, I recommend you have a thorough and honest conversation with yourself in the mirror about your life choices, hopes, and dreams.

Yep, they serve a purpose when that purpose needs serving. Otherwise, they are a royal pain in the ass to drive with and to remove/store when the time comes (and it will come and come often).

    I vote topless.

BTW, do you know the suspension and tire specs? Love the stance!

rear vision is reduced and blind spots over the shoulder.
You can compensate and get used to it.

Correct mirror adjustment is important, and there's a backup camera.
Granted, better than OEM reverse bulbs or supplemental backup lights help.
Ive had a cap on every Toyota I've owned, so I guess I don't even think about it anymore.

Well I've been know to say a few things on this topic.
    In this order of priority...
    1. You are making the payments and laying down the Benjamis, you get to decide what happens with your truck and damn what anyone else thinks.
    2. DAYYYUM! That is a FINE looking truck. Either way is rugged truck hotness. Congrats.
    3. Form follows function. If you are getting the utility of the topper keep it on. If you are getting the utility of the open bed, keep it off.
    4. I'm a sucker for a truck with an appropriate topper on it. Color matched and looking intentional and on point.
There is no bad decision here.

I like the functionality of a topper but 80% of the time I don’t need it. Below was the perfect compromise. Takes 20 minutes to put on 30 to put away and takes up almost no garage space. Same drop stitch material as the stand up paddle boards IMG_5673.jpg

The only nit I can pick with that set up is the wheels on the trailer. And honeslty they aren't that bad. Just a little 1950 - 1970 looking for the awesome beast you got pulling it. Even better hubcaps would fix that.

I'm late to this party, but I have had toppers on all three of my Tacomas...all TRD ORs. They were a 2005, 2010, and my current 2017. Initially I got the topper for dog carrying and bird hunting...it also allows me to carry a storage box with tools and jumper cables easily and securely. I vote to keep for purposes that will surface in the future.
