I considered going this route, but decided against it. Here are my reasons:

    1) Its expensive. Though not alucab level expensive, the lift is still a couple thousand if I remember correctly, and that's not even factoring in the cap.
    2) You have to drill in to your bed. When I bought the truck I was pretty adverse to mods like that. I still am a little bit, but tha'ts changing every day. haha
    3) I don't like how the tent setup will allow water to get in the bed. Seems like depending on the campsite, and weather conditions, you run a risk of sleeping on a water bed, or worse in a puddle in your tent in your truck bed, should there be a puncture on the bottom.
    4) Also, hindsight. Considering how much my cap leaks as is (I honestly think a noodle strainer would let less water through - yes I'm annoyed at this). I can't even imagine how bad it'd be if I were to be raising and lowering it constantly.

I could see water being an issue, so definitely agree with you there. Purely speculation though since neither of us have tried it. My cap doesn't leak a drop ever, so I'd hate to introduce a problem. I sleep on a cot though, so even if it leaked I would still be dry, though anything on the floor would need to be lifted slightly as well.

Drilling into my Tacoma is what I do, so that aspect of this system bothers me none. I do really like the idea of quickly removing the cap and storing in my garage when you need an open bed, but again running into the possibility of leaks after repeated on/off.

I also looked into it since it looked like a great idea, but was more worried on the increased wear and tear it would add to the shell moving it up and down so much.

Neat idea. The price with a topper would be in my wheelhouse, but that is a damn good point. Especially with some wind or just rocking around in the bed, the back corners of the canopy might not like that very much over time.

I feel like some weatherstripping similar to what goes around the doors would be perfect for this application.

Nobody can argue that the added height wouldn't be awesome though. Being able to sit up from my cot would be lovely while trying to put on clothes.

How much bed space do you lose installing the lift? I did a lazy search for pics of the lift system and didn't find any pics. I gave up way too easily.

I have a USED EZtopper lift for sale. Came with the shell I bought but did not use.

Complete package MINUS the wire harness that connects to the battery ($15.00 new I believe)

Save some pennies - $400.00 + shipping (LIFT SYSTEM ONLY)

Here's a sample pic of bed area

This is why I went with the Leer 180 style that bumps it up another 6" or so. I find the extra headroom to be unexpectedly nice. I didn't think it'd make much of a difference, but it really does.
