I was wondering who tops off while getting gas, and if it is good or bad or makes no difference for our trucks?

I always heard it is bad for the charcoal canister. My mechanic of more than 20 years told me not to do it. He said you really aren't gaining that much in gas.

Per instructions at gas stations, you aren't supposed to top off.

You're also not supposed to use your cell phone while fueling, leave the motor running, or get in and out of the vehicle due to static electricity. I've watched people do all 4 of these things in one swoop while fueling each of the last two weeks.

On top of that, why top off? Is that extra few ounces really all that important? It's such a small amount, its not going to give you any more time between fill ups.

Some people top off to achieve something like this:

That's what I have always heard as well so I never do plus I have seen so many idiots spill gas everywhere. I was just curious if it was bad for the vehicles or just bad for the purpose of safety.

In 16 years with a Mazda 2600 truck, and 7 with my Tacoma (total 250,000 miles between the 2 trucks) no problem with topping off the tank. With the Tacoma, I only do it IF I'm on the road and burning at least 2-3 gallons right away.
It's not about about a few ounces - I have added over 3 gallons from first click-off.
    YMMV

I've topped every vehicle I have owned and all is good. You can squeeze GALLONS in the tank after it pops.

I would agree if you are in a Nascar race and want to squeak out more distance, but why risk causing more harm than good?

About all i might ever do is squeeze a few pennies worth in, if I was at $24.96 I would bump it to $25.

No point unless you are driving through the Yukon territory or something where there are almost no gas stations. I've only done it once besides that, but it was an accident, pump handle was broken and didn't shutoff... lol fuel was shooting out of that bad boy.
