Good to know. In that case, my opinion is to stick with whatever is a manual transmission. Many reports of the automatic not being powerful to hold gears on the xway. Many reports of people missing their 4 liter motors in previous generation.

Get the OR. I don't know why you'd even consider a hood scoop and painted flairs over a locking diff. Get the manual, short bed, DC configuration as well.

If youre absolutely ready to buy, get a Sport. Youre gonna spend more time on roads anyways, and chicks dont care about your locker, they care how they look hopping out of your truck  If it was me I'd just go for a 2015 platinum tundra... where are you headed to school at?

I'd rather have the OR... I don't really think the Sport looks any better.

I have worked all of my life since the age of 12. I have two University degrees and a tradesman's license that paid for those degrees. I now own a really nice house and property, and a 2012 Sport that is somewhat modified. I am about to retire.

I would suggest that you concentrate on edumacation before a newer truck at your stage in life.

    Cheers!

Got the sport because I just didn't like the look of the OR at all. Don't plan on rock climbing with it, and the 4x4 is way more than capable of handling what I need.

99% of the "off roading" around here could be easily handled in a Subaru.

....and here I am wishing I had a FJ in the garage to sit beside my taco (which sits outside due to a short garage)....
Cannot keep my eyes off of them now that they are going away.
Funny how the world turns. Good luck with your decision.

Yeah, when I shopped for my 2016.. I thought, damn, lots of new stuff inside and out.. And, I was right, there 's issues and for some, not small ones..

For a conservative buyer, its best to wait until a design is proven..

With that said, I OWN a freakin awesome truck!

Get the Offroad in manual transmission.

    When you graduate.

    Another tidbit of advice:
As a current college student, let me be the first to say your car is going to sit in a parking lot/garage for a majority of the semester. Youd be better off saving more and then getting a badass truck and modify the fuck out of it after a few years/graduation. Im driving my taco that I had all through high school and I just did something big (lift and tires) for my hs graduation and that has satisfied me thus far

    1. you need a sick truck in order to get girls. Duh...

    2. Get a 4runner... I wish I would have, having the coolest car among your friends means you drive to pick up the coeds, the back seat of a tacoma has no room for friends, or activities...

Also save some room in the budget for your yeti...
And get a nice apartment and hang a HUGE american flag on a entire wall.. Wouldn't believe the amount of girls that will come over before they go out just to take a picture.. Then you go out with them :oldglory:

Screw the truck, get a sienna. Plenty of room for activities. Who's the party shuttle van? You are, you'll be invited to every kickback because you have the wheels.

I too am also in college and would recommend that you wait a bit, but then again if you really want to buy one, buy the OR. For a similar price, you get more features. I'll probably wait 'til I graduate to buy a 3rd gen.

Or if you needed more space or like having a V8 under the hood, get a Sequoia.
