Just got my truck serviced at 5000 miles and I was told that both CV axle boots are torn. Any idea or personal experience that could explain how that could have happen? I haven’t done any sort of off roading and the only big mods I’ve done is new wheels and tires. The wheels do have a negative offset but it shouldn’t have anything to do with tearing the boot to my understanding. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Maybe take a peak and see if they are actually torn, kind of hard to believe that they would be on a new truck thats not lifted

    Yeah.
Yeah, I would confirm myself. I do wheel my truck and just replaced a steering boot that was skewered by a stick, and my CV boots are still fine. Unless the guys that did your wheels and tires messed them up.

Super easy to check - just shimmy your ass under your truck and take a look.

If they're torn they will probably be spitting grease around so it should be pretty hard to miss.

torn CV boots make an uholy mess under the truck, should be easy to see when you look. The axles fling grease everywhere unless it's a pinhole tear.

I would suspect either someone working on the truck ripped them, or something on the road jumped up and bit 'em. It happens

Was ur truck ever towed with J hooks ?? This will rip cv boots all the time if they install the hooks up instead of hook down.. I have seen this many times. Both outer boots I bet ??

To answer all comments so far, Never been towed and I’ve checked under and around the edge, closer to the truck, of the boot is covered in grease and part of the LCAs are covered in grease too but not a ton. It’s plausible that when I had the wheels and tires installed, the guys could’ve torn them on accident. Also there was one instance where my suspension got slammed pretty hard on one occasion while driving. Regardless, I’m covered by my warranty and scheduled for next week to get them taken care of

That is really strange dude ! I cant imagine how they could of harmed the cv boots by putting tires on unless they did it on purpose. Also hitting a huge bump or pot hole would not cause this. I would like to know myself

    Yeah.
Wondering if it was towed for some reason before you even owned it. How long have you had it? How long do you think it has been slinging grease?

This is going to be a hard sell to warranty. A single boot failing on a new truck is rare, but not unheard of. A boot on each side failing on a new truck is like finding unicorn shit.

Im going to go with a outside influence as stated by others. I wish you the best with getting warranty to cover, hopefully they will look and say that both clamps were loose or something and get you new axles.

The service center already informed me that it was covered unless I heard incorrectly and if that’s the case I’ll be pushing hard for them to do so

It could’ve been towed but unlikely considering I bought the truck when it had like 40 miles on it back in November. As far as how long I think it’s been slinging grease, no idea but I haven’t heard any weird noises like grinding or such so I doubt for very long

If they are being replaced under warranty, then they get shipped back to toyota. Customer never gets warranty parts back.

Sounds like a bad batch of boots. The installer at the Factory probably doused them in hand sanitizer or something.

I worked for VW for 6 years, we had people every day asking for the parts back. They usually either wanted them as spares since they still "worked" or to "prove we did the work".

UPDATE: I’ll have to wait 2 days on the parts but everything will be covered by warranty
