If anyone wants to reboot you can get a replacement kit from Toyota. It will come with the correct packets of grease for the inner and outer joints. Often they use different grease for each. And the kit will include the boot clamps. You may need a special plier tool to clamp the clamp tight depending on the type of clamp. And the boots may be better than aftermarket boots.

The grease can be messy. Wear disposable gloves, wipe as much grease off as possible with paper towels, then repeated hit it with brake cleaner until it's clean or soak it in a solvent. Then let it dry or use compressed air to dry it.

I totally understand why someone would prefer to just replace the axle with a rebuild and be done, but some of us like to tear things apart and fix them even if it seems like a waste of time to others.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
$35 for an oem boot and clamp kit with grease and new snap rings. All you need at that point is an hour of time. Might not be worth it for those that struggle to hold a wrench I guess.

About $310 for an OEM axle. Might seem like a lot for some. My truck is over 10 years old now, lifted for 9 of those years. The inner boot on one of my axles has been torn for at least 3 years. It's been exposed to New England winters (lots of salt), water, mud, sand, etc... It's still going strong. When the time comes to finally replace it, I'll gladly spend the $300+ for an axle that will be good for another decade.

Yeah my boot on the passenger side in my '05 just tore today. Wrapped some duct tape around it and gonna hope for the best! Should be fine - vehicle never sees dirt roads or mud.
