    Hey guys,

I've done a little bit of research and it appears that I have a torn outer cv boot on the driver's side. Lots of grease all over the place and it was not like this when 2" spacers were added up front last month. There does not appear to be any rubbing or such and really think this boot got ripped when the truck was taken to Toyota for an alignment after installing spacers (they left some vice grips on the arms up front which I found after getting the truck home).

Also, at full lock on the steering there is a binding or popping noise that I have heard 4 or 5 times in the last month since the spacers were installed. The tire doesn't rub on anything during full range of movement.....could this lack of grease be making this noise as a result of the torn cv boot?

Anyhow, just want recommendations on a permanent fix for the torn boot (that's what I think I have going on).....

    Thanks!

Yeah you've probably got a torn boot. You can buy the whole axle for like $100 and put it in your self in about 30 mins or so but if Toyota left vice grips on your truck during an alignment I would take it back and tell them what happened.

I have the same problem. Both of my boots are torn. I bought cv axles with neoprene boots and I'm going to give them a try. I might put them on myself, but I'm not good with that kind of stuff. Even with a write up on here..

It is probably because the CVs are being pushed beyond their design.

Do you have any other lift in addition to the spacers?

So is the boot torn or not torn? Should be easy to see.

No other suspension mods other than 2" spacers up front. I do have a 1.5" AAL kit that has NOT been installed on the rear yet....that's going to happen at the same time that I fix the boot. Might as well knock both out if I'm greasy, right?

Just to clarify, are the spacers 2" thick or they give 2" of lift. Also, when I first put my spacer lift on (top plate spacers) my passenger side cv boot pushes some grease out and splattered on the frame just like yours. I inspected boot and cleaned up all the grease and there was no tear. 45,000 miles later no problems with cv boot or axle. Could just be pushed grease, are you positive there is a tear?

edit: I see there is a tear in boot.

The spacers GIVE 2" of lift, however they are less than 2" thick themselves.
