    ...given the recent attention to tornadoes following the Moore, OK event, ...i thought it would interest some in finding out a little about how tornado damage surveys and ratings are done... As you'll see, the NWS does a very thorough analysis, and factors in the construction methods of the damaged structures, including the impact of "poor construction" methods which can be a detriment to the fujita scale rating, and also extreme phenomena/damage (the concrete parking stops ripped from the parking lot of the hospital..., projectile impailments, etc.)

    here is a good showcase of the damage survey from the Joplin, MO tornado, i think you'll find very interesting...
