I saw that, great buy. I have a HF 1/2" drive I've been trying out and thinking of picking up a 3/8" as well for only ten bucks. I don't have anything to compare with (for accuracy) as my Proto and Craftsman torque wrenches were stolen. I've seen mixed reviews here on TW on the HF torque wrenches. I tend to over tighten things and feel the HF at least puts me in the ballpark. Curious what other have to say.

Agreed! But I have seen in TW some folks have tested HF to trusted name brands with little deviation.

 

At the very least get a craftsman. They aren't too much more expensive.

My brother in law used a HF torque wrench for a job on his V6 before. It was off and his heads were ruined.

 

I gave mine away. They were junk. Have a Kobalt 3/8 click type that is spot on with my SnapOn.

 

I've had mine for about a year now, had good luck with it. Just make sure and use appropriately. I always make sure and leave it loose when putting away i.e. set back to zero and leave the adjuster untightened. Definitely wouldn't use for critical things such as engine internals etc.

 

I've wrenched for about 3 years with an HF Pittsburgh pro 1/2" drive torque wrench. It works. One day it stopped working and I couldn't actuate the switch in the head to reverse the gears, HF replaced it with a new one. Zero issues and I use it up to 100 ft.lbs.

 

I keep one in my truck. Worked decent. I have a nice husky one in my garage that I really trust.

 

I have an even harder time trusting a harbor freight jack, but everyone swears by them on here. There are some things worth paying the going rate for.

 

The hate of harbor freight is laughable on this forum.

 

I've got the HF torque wrench and have compared it to a buddies Craftsman (maybe sears) while we were installing heads on Mustangs. Worked great and was within in 2lbs of the Craftsman. I've used it many of times wrenching on the Mustang, wheatear its under the hood or under the car. Hasn't let me down yet. I also try and take care not to toss it around and let it get beat up. Id say at $10 its a good buy if you don't have one or need a back up.

 

I have plenty of HF stuff in my garage, but not a single item pertaining to precision or life safety. Those are two places I simply refuse to compromise in my spending.

I've been using my craftsman torque wrench for 8 years. I'm pretty skeptical about anything harbor freight. Their tools are more of a one time use type of thing.

 

I've bought a lot of items from HF with great success, but will pass on any of their calibration toolsets. I have 2 Matco torque wrenches inherited that I'm fortunate to have. Wrenching on motorcycles on a regular basis, it's very easy to snap off a 6 or 8mm bolt head by over torqueing so that's one area of tools I won't skimp.

 

I've had mine for over 6 years, same one and it's been
accurate and issue free.

 

Stuff that I buy from HF are simple things like screw drivers, sockets, sand paper, backup jack stands, drill bits....
Mostly things that little to no physical movement or things that I will be hammering on or misusing it.
They get the job done for a reasonable price.
