Torque wrench off...thread damage?

    If it stays in and you don't have any leaks...you're probably fine.

    I'd check it from time to time to make sure it's not working itself loose.

    Repairing it shouldn't be a big deal. Re-tapping the threads should help. Depending on what's inside the pan on the opposite side....whether Toyota put a threaded stud or whether its just threaded into the thickness of the pan itself (God, I hope not)......will determine how you can fix it.

    Complacency.....hmmm I'm very aware of what a drain plug falling out will cause.

    Lets do a poll........
    How many people that change their own oil have ever had a drain plug fall out?

    I tell you what, you start a post in twenty years and let me know if your still using a torque wrench on your drain plug.

    I have never had an issue when changing the oil myself. However, when my wife's car was in the shop I told them to change the oil as well. Next day there was a small puddle of oil in the driveway. I had to get under the car and tighten the drain plug.
