I've had two DELLS....hated them BOTH!

I've also had two HP's and a Gateway. Honestly, my Gateway was the best.

If you must go PC, Dell. My father-in-law is a computer freak. He administrates the ACLU servers (just to give him a little creditability -- not trying to brag or anything). He swears by them.

Otherwise, Mac. (might I point out that he hates Mac sooo.... My comment is a wash). Haha!

PS. Congrats. I just posted that so that others could see my opinion. Hit me up if you have any questions. Looks like the other mac peeps have it under control.

I love my Toshiba laptop I have had it for over a year and I havent had a problem with it yet.. Just like anything if you buy a cheap laptop (any brand) it will have cheap parts in it.. so you get what you pay for..

HATE DELL!! my first laptop was a Dell and it was a POS! shut down software issues, hardware issues just junk. Wasnt cheap either $1100. I suggest go with a Macbook pro. But if you cant afford that go with a high end toshiba. I have had mine for several months now and only had one issue. I fixed that with a little research and warranty.

The last 2 years I worked in the Geek Squad at Best Buy and to be honest, probably worked on more HPs as far as laptops than almost any other brand, though I would say it's possibly because they are more popular.. They seemed to have more software issues vs hardware issues, older toshibas overheated all the time, sony being sony, hardly issues at all.
Toshiba's now I love, they just recently put out a new line, a bit thicker but larger heat sinks, they make alot of their own parts as well.
Acer owns gateway and emachine, so hence their non reliable-ness (I made that word up) Asus I like as well, though more of a gaming laptop. Dell studio and XPS kick ass, the inspiron, not so much.
Btw, my opinions are just based off of facts I saw in my own precinct when repairing computers, like anything dealing with technology, there will be issues with a certain %. As far as the Toshiba with a bad keyboard, could have unfortunetly been just a lemon and could have easily happened with any manufacturer or from Toshiba directly. Each manufacturer seems to have laptops that fit diff people, just kind of depends on what you use it for.

Oh and mac FTW! HAHA Congratz on the new computer.

My 1st laptop was a Dell Inspiron, I spent more time on the phone w/slumdog millionaire than I did with my family!
I hope they can fix/replace the HP. It was getting hot enough to fry bacon on!!
I had heard good things about Toshiba and lots of guys in Iraq seem to be using them and having no problems, of course mine was a lemon.
I'm pretty sure I will never buy anything else but Mac though.
The Girl that helped me today at Best Buy said you can buy a pc and spend time and money having it fixed or just buy a Mac, either way your gonna spend the money.:D

I think you just got a bum laptop. My parents have had a toshiba and dell for years they are both still up and running with no issues. they are both decent in their own ways. i would read the reviews on cnet.com they have pretty good information. If you only use internet you should look into a netbook. i got one and have not looked back. It is great.

It just depends on the computer. It's true with macs you pay more up front, but lasts you longer, no freezing, no BSOD, don't have to defrag the hd, less prone to viruses, etc.

I agree. It also depends on the owner and how they use it and take care of it.
