Bed Stiffeners - What do they do? Do I need them?

This is a very common question we get at TOTAL CHAOS. If you're running a camper shell, bed rack w/ RTT, or just putting your truck through serious off-road abuse then you should consider Bed Stiffeners.

On 2005 and newer Tacoma's the composite bed is very weak. Over time they can fracture or crack causing issues with tailgate alignment and possibly lights. We reinforce the rear bed channels at the tailgate which is ideal for preventing bed flex and avoiding issues that come along with it.

The TOTAL CHAOS Bed Stiffeners also feature additional tie-down points. Adding a set will give you 6 tie down points and 2 light or whip mounts. *no load ratings are implied

Constructed of 3/16" steel these are built to last. We finish them in a durable black powder coat and include grade 8 hardware for the install. Are you running TOTAL CHAOS Bed Stiffeners or have questions about them? Post up

I bought these and installed them. I have a leer canopy and the weight was causing the bed to crack on both sides down below the tail-lights. I would recommend them..

What makes these bed stiffeners 60.00 better than the cali raised or others that I can get for 100.00?

Thanks for posting up - it appears you accidentally received the 3rd Gen Bed Stiffeners. The top of the stiffener is slightly different between the second and third generation Tacoma. Here is a picture showing the difference:

    IMG_3047.jpg
2005-2015 (#48675) is on the Left. 2016-2018 (#48676) is on the right.

Our apologies about the mix up. Glad you were able to make them work!

Customers that choose TOTAL CHAOS bed stiffeners are looking for superior quality, customer service, and a product that will easily last the lifetime of the vehicle. Constructed of laser cut 3/16” steel and powder coated in a durable semi gloss black finish these stiffeners were designed to be a solution to a personal problem the owner of TC was experiencing on his 2013 Tacoma that had a camper shell installed. Our Patented Bed Stiffeners extend higher than the competition which gives your bed rails additional support that we know it needs from our personal use and experience. The additional height is something that’s often overlooked and necessary with the Tacoma’s composite bed. These are 100% Made in the USA. If you have more questions don’t hesitate to email info@chaosfab.com

That was an awesome answer. I have your upper arms on my truck and know you build quality stuff. When I decide to get these you will be high on the list. Any chance you could incorporate a bottle opener into these?

    Thanks for the support
No plans on adding a designated bottle opener at this time, but the antenna/whip mount still works if you're familiar with opening bottles on the edge of a table

Question to y’all Running the total chaos bed stiffers with a sleeping platform and drawer system...

I bought some at the helm bed stiffeners thinking they would clear the circled support area, but the drawer is just barley going to hit it.

It looks like the same area on the total chaos ones are shorter and I won’t have to alter my drawer system to get it to work.

Better yet, maybe someone can give me a measurement of that whole bottom section so I can be exactly sure.

    Thanks!

    Damn, I should have waited.
Just bought some a few weeks ago.
Great product BTW. Like that it clears the OEM bed mat and the tie down points are handy. My bed was out of whack already (shell, rack) had to draw one side in a bit.

Sure do. Took a couple while I was installing them. Also have your upper arms on this truck and a Gen 2 Caddy kit on my 86 4x4 project truck.
Reminds me, I gotta order new bushings and uniballs for the uppers on this truck.

I've been enjoying and using mines for some time now. I off road with my kayaks on the racks and thought this was a good safe measure. I use the additional tie downs a lot. I recently removed them to refinish the surface since I had some developing rust spots. I do a lot of salt water activities. These stiffeners are much more heavy duty than I thought.
