For some reason, the Fox 2.5’s are not fitting inside the LCA, the eyelet is too wide…shock incompatible?

PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AND LEXUS REAR LINK KIT – WHY UPGRADE?







TOTAL CHAOS is regarded as the industry leader in aftermarket performance Upper Control Arms and Toyota long travel independent front suspension systems. When you upgrade your front suspension, it is necessary to upgrade the rear suspension to balance the vehicle. We manufacture high quality performance Toyota and Lexus rear link kits for a variety of off road SUV’s as well as the newly designed rear linked pickup trucks.




2022+ 3rd Gen Tundra with TC 5-link kit (PN: 88450), KING 3.0 IBP rear shocks, and KING sway bar link.


Rear link kits are often referred to as upper and lower rear control arms. They are used to locate the rear axle and to prevent the housing from rotating causing axle wrap – a common traction issue with rear leaf spring systems. Rear links work in conjunction with a variety of rear coil springs that will set the rear ride height and hold the appropriate vehicle weight – and the shock absorbers provide dampening control keeping the tires firmly planted over uneven terrain.





TOTAL CHAOS REAR SUSPENSION PACKAGE UPGRADES
Wheel travel is a function of how far your vehicle’s suspension can compress and extend. More wheel travel generally equates to increased ability to absorb bumps off-road without losing control or causing damage to your vehicle. Some versions of TOTAL CHAOS rear link kits provide an additional inch of down travel when paired with the appropriate custom length aftermarket shock. TOTAL CHAOS stocks KING shocks to build your rear suspension package. An aftermarket coil spring is usually added to your vehicle when you purchase shocks. We supply longer coil springs so they accommodate the added droop travel. We also offer different spring rates and list options to customize your ride for your specific application.


OEM 5th Gen 4Runner links on the left vs. TC links on the right (PN: 86400). TC link wall thickness varies on other models but is always thicker than stock.

TOTAL CHAOS REAR LINKS ARE STRONGER THAN STOCK
TOTAL CHAOS upper and lower links are constructed from chromoly tubing that is twice as thick and more than twice as strong as stock. They are fitted with PTFE-lined chromoly adjustable rod ends and high misalignment spacers that bolt-on and pivot at the frame. We use greasable urethane bushings at the rear axle end to help absorb road vibration since most vehicles are driven 80% on-road. Factory hardware is reused on all TC kits for a true bolt-on installation.





REBUILDABLE REAR LINK KITS
Factory rubber bushings will wear out over time with excessive off road use or high mileage vehicles. They are a soft rubber compound designed to twist and flex. Over time the rubber becomes dry rotted allowing the rear suspension to incur more flex and body roll. Toyota and Lexus factory rear link control arms are not rebuildable. TOTAL CHAOS Toyota and Lexus rear link kits are completely rebuildable and designed to last the life of your vehicle.

TOTAL CHAOS offers a lower rear link skid plate upgrade to protect the factory lower link pivot mounts from rock damage on the trail. These brackets fit: 2003-2009 4Runner | 2010-2023 4Runner | 2003-2017 FJ Cruiser | 2003-2009 GX 470 | 2010-2024 GX 460


Lower Link Skidplates are a great complement to TOTAL CHAOS Links.

1990 TOYOTA PICKUP TRAVELS FROM CANADA TO SOUTH AMERICA

We spent a couple of wonderful years driving our 1990 Toyota Pickup from Canada south through Mexico, Central, and South America. The 22RE buzzed along at wide open throttle all day, every day. It put down a sweet 116 horsepower to the ground and never complained as long as we kept topping up the oil. I’m still certain that the constant four-cylinder rasp caused a little bit of hearing loss along the way – especially with the two side windows rolled down, providing the closest thing we could find to air conditioning. Endless dirt roads were dampened by hopes, dreams, and clapped out Old Man Emu shocks.

WHY REPLACE WHEN YOU CAN UPGRADE?
Upon our return home, and after 100,000 kilometers of hard travel, it was finally time to upgrade the suspension. It was time to look forward to endless dirt roads and two-tracks instead of questioning whether our ol’ backs and twin-tube dampers could handle the abuse. There aren’t a lot of aftermarket options for improving the suspension performance of these torsion bar sprung 30-year-old minitrucks. You can put mediocre shocks on an otherwise stock truck or you can double down and install a TOTAL CHAOS +3.25” Gen II Caddy Long Travel Kit – effectively doubling the wheel travel and quadrupling the fun, all while retaining 4WD. It was time to cause a little chaos, as TOTAL CHAOS makes a host of products for the 1986-1995 IFS Toyota pickups.







The TOTAL CHAOS Weld-on Shock Hoop Kit deletes the torsion bars and allows modern coil-over shocks to be installed, complete with the ability to tune the suspension for our exact wants and needs. We installed an 8-inch travel coil-over in conjunction with an adjustable secondary shock, both were re-valved prior to install for our relatively lightweight truck. In order to prevent frame separation of the lower control arm pivots under harsh bottom outs we also installed a TOTAL CHAOS Weld-on Truss Kit.







STEERING UPGRADES
Our slightly-lifted Pickup and 285/75R16 Toyo Tires AT3s (combined with countless washboard roads) have led to many stock idler arms meeting an early demise. In order to limit time in AutoZone parking lots playing mechanic and replacing stock-type arms we chose to install the 100% bolt-on TOTAL CHAOS Caddy Idler Arm. The rebuildable idler arm comes pre-assembled and ready for abuse. Since we never know where we’re going to be when it’s time for service, we keep a rebuild kit in the truck at all times. We also deep-sixed a pair of uniballs along with a removal tool for future use.







FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY
After the initial shakedown run we re-valved the shocks one more time, replaced the 600 lb/in coil springs with 500 lb/in Eibachs, greased the upper control arms again, and generally softened the ride. We’ve got 12-inches of wheel travel now, so it makes sense to use as much of it as possible as often as possible. The joy of hitting bumps or G-outs with minimal drama is hard to explain, but more often than not it causes a laugh from driver and passenger alike. We still tense up expecting a big hit, but now the Pickup just sails through without a second thought. The bigger the bumps, and the faster we go, the smoother it is. An unexpected bonus of all this work was the handling improvement on pavement – even if the truck still tops out at a measly 75 miles per hour… on flat roads… with a tailwind.

REBELLE DAY 1
REVEILLE, NV

Day one of competition is in the books for the 2024 Rebelle Rally – Nevada hosted the start for 65 rally teams as they navigated a 270 km stage comprised of 2 loops and 1 enduro. The two top ranking Toyota’s trailing a pack of Ford’s and Jeep’s are both #tcequipped.

Team # 152 Brophy / Barber in the TOTAL CHAOS custom built 2024 Tacoma outfitted with a TC Mid-Travel Performance Package round out the top 10 for day 1 points. While Team # 156 Fuller / Leewhay in their 2004 Tacoma with TOTAL CHAOS Upper Control Arms are tied for 11th trailing by 1 point.

REBELLE DAY 2

Twin Springs - Ash Springs

As the competitors headed south out of Base Camp 1 Sunday, they ended Day 2 just outside of Alamo, Nv. This is the first marathon leg of the competition – starting Day 3 the teams will have no idea what they scored the day before and strategies are going to be key. Two of the TOTAL CHAOS equipped teams currently sit in the top 5 for points after day 2 – the Gen 1 Tacoma # 156 piloted by Rasa Fuller / LeeWhay Pasek climbed up in positions and sits in 3rd place. The TC Gen 4 Tacoma #152 piloted by Becky Brophy / Samantha Barber trails them by 3 points and sits in 4th place for todays ranking. Let the 5 day grind begin. This is where the days blend together and you must remain hyper focused despite the fatigue. The girls are headed south where the temperatures are going to rise. 22 points separate 1st thru 4th place as they adventure south into some new terrain.
