    While Dirt king makes a good LCA there are things what we believe set us apart from their LCA’s and one our mottos is “often imitated, never duplicated”. The TOTAL CHAOS 86555 is made 100% of 4130 material which is stronger than the mild steel that most companies use. When using mild steel its necessary to use a thicker material which makes the arm heavier, when using 4130 the arm is lighter without compromising strength. When it comes to the pivots, TC uses 2 ¼” material which allows for larger polyurethane bushings as well as larger diameter inner sleeves which make a stronger clamping force on the frame so the alignment stays put off-road. TC uses polyurethane bushings which allow for minimal flex off-road, but still offers a slight cushion when it comes to shock load to the frame. Poly will squeak if not maintained but Dirt King uses Delrin which is very strong, but will eventually have a very loud groan when the suspension is cycled, Delrin also transfers more load to the frame instead of absorbing it. At TC we believe if you aren’t making things better, its not worth modifying the factory parts. Dirt king uses a Moog ball joint which is no stronger than the stock ball joint, and cannot withstand the abuse that a 1” uniball can handle. For some reason, Dirt King uses spacers between the lower ball joint cradle and the steering knuckle. This changes the factory geometry and makes it necessary to use bolts that aren’t flanged or designed for that application. This is by no means meant to disrespect Dirt King since they do make a good product; We just wanted to inform you of the differences and why we thing we make a superior product.

    Which bypass shocks will work with the expedition stock length lowers? I think I'm going to stay mid travel.

    Useless post/bump:

    :eek::eek: $$$$$$$:eek::eek:

    Well, I suppose my only realistic option for cost/quality balance is to simply buy new LCAs from Toyota o_O (daily driver + occasional light off-roading on desert washboard trails)

    @TOTAL CHAOS
    Im planning out stage 2 for my taco. I am planning on going with relations race wheels RR5 monoblocks accompanied with your stock length lower and upper arms and single fox coilovers. Whats the biggest tire size i could go with and not rub while keeping great off road functionality before i have to cut the cab mounts?

    Any size bigger than stock is going to rub somewhere. a 265 should fit with some minor plastic clearing. you can run a 285 w/ our body chop kit.

    I’m not sure how much different the dimensions are on the new Tacos as compared to my ‘08, but I have a 2.5in lift with 18x9 wheels on 4.5in backspace.
    With that, I’ve used 2 sets of 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers with very minimal cab mount rubbing at full turn.
    Now I’m using 285/60/18 Ridge Grapplers and with only a slight change in sidewall % on that model tire, I’ve got tons of room all around inner and outer shoulders of the tires.

    Just a bunch of old crap
    Still clearing just fine. No signs of binding or rubbing on anything. All shock paint is still untouched, and never had an issue on or offroad.

    @TOTAL CHAOS what kind of life do the uni-balls on the lowers generally get? I'm replacing my stock lowers with these and they prolly have a 140k miles on my stock ball joints n arms.

    Definitely less than that! All these shiny stock length arms are a total waste of money! They just look nice, that’s all. Most don’t even have limit strap tabs. For a fraction of what they cost you can reinforce the stock ones where it matters and add sealed uniball frame pivots, which would actually be an improvement that none of these fab companies offer. Well, JDFab does, but they don’t offer stock length LCA…. On a stock length set up you’ll never be able to use the greater articulation potential of a uniball. It’s just a PITA with “benefits” you can’t use.

    Mileage is going to depend on a lot of variables but if you take care of them you should get 30,000-45,000 miles out of them. Yes they don't typically last as long as ball joints but they are also stronger than ball joints and much easier to maintain/replace.

    Obviously some others don't feel stock lowers are worth it but our Stock Expedition lowers add strength, easier to maintain than stock LCAs, allow a ton of shock options to be used, retain factory turning angles, and you get great customer service and support from Total Chaos.
