If you don't already have reservations, good luck. Everything in the path of totality is taken-even stuff that's not traditional camping areas-like school lawns.

    Should be spectacular.

How about remote camping areas in the path, in OR? I've never been that far up north...

Idk about dispersed camping. I bet that will be a zoo as well.

There have been predictions of large crowds in OR at least.

I'm headed to an undisclosed location somewhere in Western Idaho. I'm confident the crowds will thin out beyond the paved roads.

Here's a test shot of the sun through a solar filter.

We are going to be there, as part of a northwest mini vacation.
Sunday nite, we have reserved a hotel room in nearby Roseburg, and hoping for clear skies.

Just used the plotter, and I will have 98.9% totality on my back deck. If I go 35 miles south to Grimsley, Tn. I will be in totality.

Advice from experience (I was at the '79 eclipse) 98.9% isn't the same, go for totality, it's worth the trip.

During the Venus transit, I tried the 500mm approach with a mylar sun filter. Not too bad.

Can you provide a link to the filter you are using?

    Thx!

This is the filter material I used.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DS7SSEW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I laid a uv filter on it and cut a circle that fit between the filter and the lens. You can also tape the filter over the lens. Wrinkles in the filter material won't affect the picture quality, it's too thin.
Filter material must go between the lens and the sun, never between the lens and the camera or your eye. The filter material will be damaged if the sun's image is focused on it.

That's what I did. Cut a circular piece to fit the lens side of the filter.
