Well, I figured I would introduce myself since Ive been poking around a bit lately.

Long story short, I HAD a 2012 4runner limited. There was an accident right outside my work and the cars plowed off the road and hit my 4runner head on. o_O

Of course I had paid it off about a year ago and it was in fantastic condition.

BUT, I wasn't in it, and my son wasn't in it... so..... worse things have happened.

It's just my son and I, and an SUV for 7 was a bit overkill.

We aren't "off-road" guys, but we did absolutely and do absolutely have the need to tow, (a fairly light boat, 2000lbs ish) and where we use the boat most of the time is a dirt "launch" down to the river that is shallow and rocky and the vehicle needs to be able to go in the water a fair amount to get the boat off the trailer.

Throw in bikes, mulch, kayaks, and.... my wheels started to turn...

SO.... tomorrow, Im picking up my 2016 tacoma TRD sport!!!!

    Welcome to TW!
Since you'll be launching the boat often, and in they way your describing look into the rear differential breather modification.

Edit - and the mods begin...

    Thank you for the welcomes!

For reference, this was less than two weeks ago...

My friend and I took a short 4 hour drive (one way) to pick up the perfect truck for me (and my son) yesterday.
got home well after dark last night.... BUT.... its SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY.

    Since you asked...
2016, 29kmiles, Double cab, 4x4, Short bed, bed cover, KO2's, super white, tech package, premium package, JBL audio system and tow package. I BELIEVE the only option it doesn't have power rear slider. But it had everything else I wanted, and the price (from my research) was very very good. Hence the 4 hour drive. AND (again, from what I found) there is just not a ton of these out there that have the tech and premium package together.

    OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOO.....

Will I need this to launch at all? As in I am supposed to go this coming weekend. (Can I do it a few times without the mod or no?)
Is there a limit to water depth the tacoma can go in? Other than not in the doors?!?!

    Help a Tacoma newb out!

For reference... this is launching the boat in the 4runner. The photo was taken almost from shore. The boat is closer to shore than the 4runner here. (It's getting it off of the trailer that requires the clearance)

You "should" be fine launching. At ~30K miles is good time to change rear fluid anyways. You could order the parts and when you receive them service the rear and install the breather mod. It's not expensive and will give you peace of mind when having the rear submerged.

Use the search function and you'll be able to find out the part #s and the what, where and why. I was going to link you to one but there way to many to choose from. Read a few and you can make your decision.

Hope this helps and congratulations on you new truck! 040 for the win!
