I think ridiculous resale has a lot to do w it. Probably have a chain tied to a herd of goats to pull what they can and weld a rocket launcher in the bed within 5-6 weeks.

don't forget, most newer vehicles use different metals on different parts of the structure to meet impact specifications correctly.

older vehicles never had different metals so much, so pulling/cutting/changing parts were far easier with less consequences.

given he needs a new roof panel, door, head liner, and rear door opening structure, and considering that my damaged truck that was mostly in the rear door was $6k, i'm saying it'd likely be closing in on around $25k to repair at a bare minimum, and that's assuming none of those parts are on intergalactic backorder, which changes the insurance companies costs keeping the OP in a rental vehicle while they potentially wait for the parts to exist.

Ugh, that’s hard to see, sorry OP. Was the line damaged and partially downed and the damage to the houses in the background due to Baryl? Guess you got your power back too, glad you are safe!

I agree that your truck looks done, it’ll be a lot of headaches to get it fixed right now also. Check what cap the insurance puts on your vehicle rental cost so they don’t ding you for overspending. Good luck and I hope the recovery for you guys goes well.

Edit: you can always just keep it for a fun beach cruiser….

It's fixable but it still might be totalled. Because the damage is so focused to one area, there is higb value in it, so it would do well at auction. Thus, it may be cheaper for insurance to total it out

I'm not sure how this works in most states this practice where insurance companies try to get you to go to preferred shops is called steering and is illegal. It is in Pennsylvania. My insurance company Erie which is very reputable will still try and say things like we can get your car fixed faster if you use a preferred shop or we will pay them directly so you don't have to wait for a check. If you just hold your ground on going to your shop then they give up.
