Have you pics of the entire truck? Considering the vehicles involved you fared pretty damn well.

What exactly happened? Looking at the pics I'm wondering how the tailgate and right side of the truck are in such better shape from a rear end collision.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
shopping cart hit it at walmart right? paint and dent warranty should cover it ;)

    im kidding of course

    my vote is totaled.

    this is mine $7300 damage.

That looks "super totaled" to me from those photos. You should have the leverage in this wreck since it was not your fault.

If is was the large commercial truck (tractor) that is at fault, they should take care of you with what you have said and your photos.

Just remember ... insurance companies are in business to maximize profits and minimize losses (claims) and no matter how sweet they seem ... they wlll nail your azz in a heartbeat.

Remember ... "preserve the record" ... meaning lots of photos and logging all phone calls (time, person talked to & what was said & etc.).

Be prepared for a "insurance claim war" (with any ins. co.) and if it does not happen ... so much the better ... but you were prepared just in case.

Hi Everyone, thank you to all those offering advice, this is definitely helping us to navigate this process. We're waiting on the appraisal of the damage, so will let you all know how this turns out in the coming days.

Attached are some more photos. The first two are the left (damaged) and right (undamaged) side doors showing the difference between the door clearances (between front and back doors), which show the left side rear door has been punched forward by the impact. Also, some additional photos of the Jeep Wrangler that looks like it hit us on an angle (his right corner), taking out our bikes and bike rack before driving in under the left rear corner of the Taco and then continuing along the left side of the box to the rear door. The only way I can explain the observed damage is that the semi-trailer continued to push both vehicles as we got spun around? The last image is of the right rear corner of the Taco, which appears untouched beyond the tailgate mounts that were bent. From the right side and front end our poor Taco looks like new for a 2009 model.

One more thing to add is that AllPro's fully welded expedition rack is built tough and likely held the bed together more that anything. It definitely took some of the upward forces when the box and bed rails flexed on the left side as the only apparent damage is a slight deflection of the bed rail mounting plate, which can hopefully be straightened as this was a hard to find item for us (many hours of research on TW and other sites) and I don't think AllPro would make the fully welded version anymore.

Sub'd for outcome. Good luck, but I'm betting the Jeep's at fault for your damage, and the semi is at fault for the Jeep's damage, even though that non-driver caused the whole mess.

    Too few to list.
From my experience with our 2009 which was backed into (very minor) damaging the driver side bedside and a little bit of the cab as well, replacement of the bedside and repair/repaint cost just under $3K. Your damage is major and as someone previously posted, the supplement from the shop that would be working on this would probably extensive. Having gone through a repair just a few months ago, the original estimate for a minor damge was about $1,900 (rear ended civic). After the shop takes it apart and find more damage (supplemental) the final bill was just under $4K. I say your damage is easily over $10K and add frame damage and it's more likely totalled.

This. Definitely keep record of it. Friend is still trying to deal with Progressive to get his bike paid for for a not-at-fault accident (someone hit him) on his motorcycle...nearly lost his life, coma for 2 weeks, now insurance is trying to screw him. (fortunately he had all his gear on and the military is footing his medical bills).

When you bend metal it's integrity isn't the same as it was before. In california the customer gets to choose where to have the vehicle repaired and it is then up to the customer to talk to the body shop about what parts are going to be used.

If I were to get into an accident and the insurance company was trying to force used parts into the repair, I wouldn't stand for used parts.
