Bumping this old thread for an update.

So, it's been a year now since my surgery, and a little longer since the accident.

I drove the truck for a several months after I recovered from surgery in its half fixed state (missing front end). Surprisingly, cops didn't seem to care as long as I zip tied my turn signals and license plate to the front.

Through a family member, I found a custom offroad and fabrication shop about 1.5 hours away from where I live. The owner has his own highly modified FJ Cruiser built for overlanding across some gnarly trails. So I dropped off my Tacoma at his shop in March, and we put together a list of everything left to repair from the wreck, as well as a future upgrades.

First thing being done is an engine rebuild. The old one still ran fine at 310K miles, but it had one cylinder low on pressure and it blows a little bit of blue smoke at startup. The plan is to supercharge the engine, so I made the decision to rebuild the engine first before putting the supercharger on it.

The rebuild is being done through yota1. An engine was ordered, but 3.5 months later, yota1 said they still did not have a new engine core in stock yet for my rebuild, so they asked for my old engine and they will use that. Not sure why they didn't ask that earlier if they were out of cores.

Once the shop removes my old engine (They think they will have a bay open after next week) the will ship my old engine off to yota1 and then start on the rest of my truck. We are basically going to inspect all aspect of the truck while it's being torn apart, and replace everything that needed. Below is a list of areas of concern already identified that need repairs, and some planned upgrades.

    1. Some damage to different wiring harness plugs. Taking out the engine will give easy access to replace or fix.

    2. Brakes - minor damage from the wreck, but I'm thinking maybe it's time for an upgrade over stock.

    3. Drive line - (carrier bearing, u joints, wheel bearings, CV axels, etc...)

    4. Vacuum lines - before the wreck I had already purchased new silicone lines to replace all of my cracking vacuum lines, but the the wreck happened.

    5. Lights - don't know exactly what yet, but lots of lights! Basically lights for lighting up 360 around the truck to use it as a base camp, because...

    6. Batwing! - 270 degree awning install, with walls, to be used as the main basecamp area when camping. Purchased of course right before the wreck.

    7. FAWCED INDUCKSHAWN - URD Magnuson Sugarcharger (second gen) with URD 7th injectors.

    8. Suspension - Front passenger side is the area hit in the wreck. The alignment is slightly off, but the suspension has not been disassembled yet since the wreck by either the collision center or the offroad shop. Visually nothing looks obviously bent, but we'll know soon enough once this shop starts to take the truck apart. Damage to the UCA ball joint is the only visual sign (it's leaking grease).

I'm going to try and see if I can get out to the shop while they are working on the truck to take some photos of the progress.

As promised, here is an update.

So the shop had issues with getting parts for another car they were working on, so they could not free up room in one of their bays until this week for my truck.

Was sent this picture from the shop owner this morning, and for those interested, this is what the intake looks like on a highly abused 5vz-fe engine with 310K miles on it.

Just some pics of parts that arrived at the shop this week.

The engine is enroute on a truck.

Love this. I’m still waiting for my Yota1 as well, ordered in May.

Maybe yours will be built using my old engine core :D

And this may not be what you want to hear, but when the order was placed with yota1 at the beginning of March, they said lead time was 3-5 months. That 3-5 months turned into 7 months.

If your engine takes as long as mine, you should expect it sometime in December.

If the insurance can make more out of parting it out then paying you, they’ll total it. It’s unfortunate because it’s worth more to you than the blue book value.

Maybe. While I did listen to 311 when I was younger, the 311 in my name is not related to the band.

It was a bit more than panel damage. The frame was diamond, but they were able to get it on a frame puller and straighten it out.

If it weren't for the ARB bumper, it would have been a lot worse.

Going to be running the stock 75mm pulley for a bit until URD gets more 70mm pulleys in stock. I message Gadget and he said they don't have a good ETA on when they will be in stock and that it could be several months.

Add a Haltech ECU and it'll feel like you just doubled the supercharger HP gains.
