Man I love these threads !!
Doesn't Need a frame. still not a total even if it did.
6 month old limited. 40k, they will fix it up to 100%
Hopefully you have rental coverage, you're gonna be without the truck for awhile.

if there is any frame damage they will total it, to many possible later problems the insurance does not want to deal with.

Can't really tell if it has any frame damage from what I can see. The upper LT Rail looks like it might've collapsed and those are replaceable. Maybe the LT Apron (Strut Tower) too. If no airbags went off, its unlikely that it will total. Even with frame damage its still possible that they would repair it. If there's no kinks on it they'd just throw it on a frame machine and do some pulls and measure it. Hell even if it was damaged enough to where it warranted replacement, they would, depending on the insurance company and state. Some states and/or insurance companies will not replace frames and just total it.

Some insurance companies CONSIDER totaling vehicles from 60% of the vehicles value all the way up to 100%.

I write collision estimates for a living BTW.

I ended having to replace my frame when someone rear ended me, the insurance didn't even mention it being close to being totaled. All the damages ended up being around 18k.

the major downside is that I without a truck for 4 months because I had to wait for a new frame just for me, good thing the other party accepted fault and paid for the whole thing

It's amazing how much damage can be on the outside:

Bed hit the cab and made a very small dent, but no frame damage. Tailgate, lights, bed panels, bumper, and some body work is coming in around $9000 in damages.

Agree with Fern, as this is all correct information (We share the same career too!) It depends on the insurance company and the state in which the vehicle is garaged. Make sure you bring it to a shop that guarantees their work. It's a pretty heavy hit and you don't want to cut corners on your new Tacoma. Especially if you're putting your family in there.

    Good luck!

I didn't realize there were so many collision guys on here. Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who chose such a poor career path:anonymous:
