Did the airbags go off? And that looks like the passenger side front was the main impact, and that could affect damage to the frame more? My airbags didn't go off and they are valuing the truck around 35k so the auto body manager was like no, we will not get that high in repairs unless something we cannot see is catastrophically wrong.

This is my first insurance claim and it does not sound like that is the case anymore at all. He was like if we start approaching 30k in repairs then we will contact allstate and have them see if they want to go forward or total it but again he couldn't imagine getting that high but who knows once they get under the truck.

Not my accident, I came across it on a auction site. Airbags didn’t go off and it didn’t mention any frame damage but there could of been. I was using that as an example but it gets pretty pricey. I was hit and they had to repaint the front bumper and replace the plastic trim piece in the front. And they repainted around the grill. It was over 2k. And only one thing was actually replaced, so I can definitely see yours being totaled... your headlights alone are going to cost over 3K for the pair.

Damn I wish I had taken it to that place... But we will see, I hope once they start the process of removing all the broken and damaged pieces that they just say here is a check for a new truck. But after going through a walk around with him I am much less hopeful of a total.

No they aren't. List on those oem headlights is 786ea
Stop gassing him up, his truck isn't going to total.
The picture you posted is of a base model truck, not a 40k trd OR.
Of course if it's worth less then it's going to take less to total

I got rear ended in late sept with frame damage and so far damage is around $12k and it’s not a total. Hope your outcome is different but I wouldn’t put money on it.

I was told $24k was the total threshold for my 4Runner

Yeah I think he was just throwing a high number out because he did not know the exact value of my truck and was just trying to explain how it won't be totaled.

It’s hard to tell. Insurance will Base it on the popularity, availability and recoverability of the value of the vehicle. A vehicle that’s flooded the market (corolla and Camry) will have a lower total threshold as the insurance company can make money off the salvage of the vehicle where the Tacoma, tundra and 4Runners are fewer on the road and salvage is harder to recoup value they’ll raise the total threshold.

They cut the rear of my frame and welded in a new section and my insurance said even with everything it’s far below the threshold for total.

I’m being realistic and not going to get your hopes up. I do hope it works out for you but I wouldn’t cross my fingers

These things completely disintegrate nowadays at the slightest bump. My Hilux got creamed in a rear end 5 car pile up and I drove off with nothing but a bent iron bumper. My 63 Falcon and 66 T Bird would scratch the front bumper and maybe a ding ..

Im glad to read here no one was injured. City traffic light on the fritz? With the right lawyer you've got a new truck coming . And it probably won't even go to court.

Well the statement was false in the sense both vehicles experienced the same collision force. That is one of the first rules of physics.. they both had equal N applied=equal and opposite acceleration with a slight variance due to real world elasticity. The tundras bags deployed solely because of the way it was hit and proximity to sensors
@Spare Parts the guy your we’re replying to is a dipstick lol I just read you’re later comments and you get it also... us New Englanders are quite smart

Bummer, sorry to see this happen to you. I rear ended a guy during a snow storm in my Gen 1 Tacoma, it wound up 6k in damage. They got her looking right again, but I swear she was never truly "right" again after that. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Imagine a head on at 70mph.

I’d rather the car explode around me than have to deal with G forces an older car put on the passengers.

I plan on some good steel bumpers for the slower fender benders. A compromise probably.

14.8k was the quote I just got back from my body shop. Nothing crazy just bolting parts back on and as he put it extremely minor frame damage. Wasn't even close to the threshold for a total. No point even arguing the insurance company would just laugh. Said it would be 10-15 days.

Will they put it on a frame machine to make it right or are they just calling it good? $14.8K is a bit of damage!

Yes they are fully running every test and machine on the frame to make it good. He said it would be as close to 100% as possible.

    Let's hope so!
Take the following with a grain of salt: I've personally experienced a car and truck with frames made "right" that didn't track properly and wore through tires and alignments very quickly.
