I learned that CarFax report can affect the value of the car/truck in the negative direction. Unfortunately the truck will not be totaled so the OP is stuck with a damaged good. Just ask yourself "Would you buy a car with body damages?" You should get a lawyer and protect your hard earned money. No one will look out for you except for yourself and the lawyer representing you and wanting the piece of the action. There is no free lunch.

Probably gonna be totaled, due to the fact that the airbags deployed. Geico will total it for that.

I wouldn't want it even if they could fix it but that's my opinion.

Make sure they do a set up and measure on the frame and ask for a print out of the before and after then get a Diminished value on it. Also ask for oem parts not that used parts from the junkyard. It drives me crazy when the insurance companies have me put used suspension parts on a customers vehicle.

In California most shops will tell you if the air bags deployed, totalled. That's because if the computer sensed the impact was strong enough to deploy airbags, it considered the damage to be catastrophic/deadly. Most insurance companies will take that as a totally loss. What you do with the truck after is up to you

I hit a black angus steer at 5 am coming around a blind corner going about 45mph about 5 years ago. I was driving my 06 AC MT 2.7L 4X4. When the state police showed up, the officer said “look, I can’t tell you what to do here, but don’t let the tow driver take your rig to a body shop. They’ll want to work on it right away. That truck is totaled.”

I had to fight tooth and nail w my insurance company even though I was not at fault (in CA it is required all ranchers keep their property contained on their property) but eventually they caved. I would not want to drive your truck post that accident.

My insurance co kept insisting that my truck was capable of being fixed and I said “no problem, please show me all the documentation that supports your side.” The next call I got was from someone at the total loss dept. Case closed.

The same could happen for you, but you have to self-advocate strongly if that’s what you want.

Some insurance companies don't offer that (USAA), you have to go direct with the person at fault's insurance company and negotiate an amount. Ask me how I know....

I love all the experts in here. 70% is not total loss threshold, airbags deployed does not mean total, bent frame does not mean total, suspension damage does not mean total. Diminished value doesn't exist in a lot of places.

    Just stop

Giving advice is a good thing which is what you did. Insulting everyone trying to help is what that other guy did. Just a waste of a post.

I have no dog in this race, all i know is i used to buy a ton of cars from auctions (mostly salvages title, some clean). I feel that most insurance adjusters just carry a magic 8 ball with them when it comes do deciding whether or not car should be totaled. I once bought a 350z that should have been totaled, yet it wasn't. We can speculate, but that's all were doing.
