Well, I have procured all the parts I need for the fix, except for the apron. I am trying not to spend $400 on that part! To that end I bought a couple high-capacity batteries for my cordless tools, and the plan is to head out to the junkyard this weekend with my kit and see if I can find a suitable donor. I have one in mind, but am not sure it is going to work out.
@mechanicjon - please check with your buddy. I wouldn't mind him making some money on the deal.

Isn’t that truck made of metal and not plastic? So I’m curious what kind of tank your coworker was driving.

anyway, this is a sad day indeed hopefully you’re able to save that truck and keep it on the road!

Have you checked car-part.com for parts? Might luck out and find what you need locally.

This. I found some more rare taco parts this way. Junkyards dont get the good trucks, those all get sent to the higher priced salvage yards that sell on carpart.com

Toyota still shows the apron available. https://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-apron-assembly-5370204201?c=cT01MzcwMi0wNDIwMA==

Hmmm... I have an untouched passenger fender, no plans to replace the OEM bumper with anything other than a winch bumper I'm going to build, and already have procured a stock hood, grill, and fender. Also, still have intact Hella e-code sealed beams (I don't know how in the world the left one survived, but it did and is in my back seat).

But yeah, by all means forget all that, and go grab an entire front clip of parts that don't belong on the truck, just to have something "custom", all predicated on the assumption of "some dude on the internet".

    Uh, no.

My biggest concern is drilling out all the spotwelds that hold this fender apron on, in order to replace it. The one that is there now is not salvageable. Even the body shop guys said it's toast, and they have jigs and tools that I do not possess.

    i've been there
found some ok stuff, but mostly found really nasty stuff, that one in Lincoln afew months ago had a major front end collision on the driver side but had a decent rear window slider
and there are only a handful of 1st gens from my last year of checking these yards, like 6 or 7 over the past six months, while the Detroit trucks are all over it seems

Yes, and it is available, but I am trying not to spend $400.

To that end, invested $70 in some new, bigger batteries for my cordless drill, and am going to go to a junkyard this weekend to see if I can rip one off of a truck there.... for $30.

Worse come to it, I can always spend the money- but I'd rather spend it on the bumper.

I want to believe that 4runner aprons are the same.

4runner is different according to Toyota parts.
