I am really happy with my 2nd Gen. I don't plan on getting rid of it. I'll drive it till the wheels fall off or the frame rusts in half. But here in saltless Oregon I am not worried about the frame. I really want to lift the truck, but worry about losing OEM suspension reliability as its my DD. Really don't want to have to deal with boot stretch mod, etc. ball joint issues etc. as I did with my 3rd Gen 4 runner I built...but I lifted that rig 4.5 inches on Bilstein adjustable coilovers, FJ80 rear coils, Sonoran Steel, Marlin Crawler bits, etc...I really miss that 99' 5spd, 3.4L radiant red bad bitch. Dealer did give me $5500 on trade though, so that was cool

Happy with my 2nd Gen. Not perfect, but an overall good truck. The 3rd Gen really hasn't grown on me.

I'll admit i'm a bit jealous when I see a third gen (because they're newer), but i'm not completely sold on the looks of them. I'm still perfectly happy with my 2nd gen, and as far as I'm concerned, non-Tacoma owners won't even know the difference (my girlfriend certainly doesn't) :p

In that case your Tacoma is going to be the last truck you ever buy period; compact trucks (no matter the manufacturer) are long gone...unfortunately.

I agree though, I love small pickups. Not everyone needs a mid size or full size. Manufacturers seem to be of the mindset "everyone wants a big ass truck we just need to make them fuel efficient!"

I have and recommend both of those upgrades. Your truck will feel brand new after you do this. Trust me.

Nope. 2nd gen is probably the best gen IMO. It's simple, reliable, looks good, and has the workhorse 4.0.

2011 TRD OR......107,000+ miles. 3" lift that aligned perfect without new UCA's....No vibrations. No front diff bearing noise or vibration. Goodyear Duratracs that are wearing like they're made of cast iron....No cuts, scrapes, abrasions, or chunks. They balanced out great. I get 20+ mpg. Chrome grill surround and rear bumper. So far no tragic events as a result of that. ALL the major complaints that are the source of constant sorrow on here are NOT happening....And I'm NOT going to imagine they are just so I can spend more money on things I don't need. I have a wife for that.

Long story short....I am extremely happy with the truck. Will drive it until it drops. 4th Tacoma I've owned. No desire to ever own another full size.

You could do this trip in a stock TRD for sure, there are some maps out there but you might want to go on advrider.com and look for trip reports. The guys often provide gps tracks. Also you could check out the movie "ride the divide" for scenery and info.
I'm thinking starting in Banff and finishing at Mexico border a couple of weeks would be a nice trip.

Im happy with mine! I bought it right before the new ones came out and they tried talking my into ordering a 2016. With a lot of the changes made and not knowing the durability I went with 2nd gen. Love it and wont be letting it go anytime soon!

Seriously thinking about this. I don't want another truck (mine's paid for), but I want a little more power for when I tow. The TRD supercharger might just be the ticket.

My 2wd Tacoma weathered that no problem though even without weight in the bed.
