You should be happy with your 2nd gen knowing that Tacomas hold their value so high over others because of just that. You can't even get a 20K 2014 Tacoma Sport for under $29K. The only one people bashing the Tacomas are the Tacos owners themselves. Everyone else drools every time they see a Tacoma. And yes, it'll get you pussies coz I know.

I like my 11 year old, 145,000 mile DCSB very much, thank you! I plan on keeping it until the motor falls out, or it rots in half.
Drove my late partner's 1st gen Access cab for about 6 months. A nice truck, but hated the feeling of sitting on the floor with the low (to me, anyway) seats.

I love my 2nd gen, especially with the new frame. Thing is a beast, handles the beach and New england winters with zero issues, 135K on the clock.
My only gripe, well 2 kind of... Im a big guy and want more elbow room. I browsed full size trucks a while ago looking for more room and i don't like any compared to my taco enough to justify making a move to full size. Secondly, we have a kid on the way so im looking at the 4runner/Grand cherokee world for more room, in cabin space, safety etc.
Ill just have to get some roof racks to transport my kayaks, only downfall really.

I always wanted a Tacoma and was trying to hold out for the third gen but I ended up wrecking my 2002 GTI (which I also planned to keep forever) I ended up getting a brand new 2014 Tacoma. I am very happy with my purchase. The 4.0 is pretty much bulletproof and I live in arizona so no rust issue for me. If the third gen had a diesel engine then I would be disappointed but it doesn't so second gen for the win!

Not sure I'd consider a Jeep until Chrysler/Fiat gets their quality control up to snuff...if I had to choose, it would be the 4Runner, maybe a Highlander. But, that's just me...

My 2009 5 lug has over 208,000 miles and is still going strong with nothing but maintenance though I have been thinking about a set of shocks. Plans are to drive it two more years and trade on a 2019 3rd Gen. I figure Toyota will have the bugs worked out by then.

I agree, I have been mainly looking at 4runners since i love my taco so much, the GC's keep popping up in comparison articles etc. Hard to beat the interior in those things.

Either way, if i do make a choice to go suv im sure ill need the bed of the taco within a week and ill be kicking myself in the ass.

Isn't there a fleshlight with a muffler attachment that one could purchase on the world wide web...?

I mean, that's the logical conclusion to where this discussion is going, no?:taco:

Just put new wheels and tires on my 2006, and I like it more now than the day I got it (or the day I put my first set of after market wheels and tires on it). Sure up close it has some scratches and blemishes but it is a truck and is over 10 years old, been slowly updating upgrading things since I got a new frame, going to drive it until it falls apart again.

OOOOoooooooo..........we have [almost] the exact same trucks, and the black grill and rims look clean on the SWB.

Now I know what my next mods are going to be!

I love my 2015 AC 4x4. I thought about upgrading to a 2017, but I couldn't come up with a rational reason to do so.

Obviously there's nothing wrong with being happy with any vehicle. Some people prefer old 60s pickups with noisy motors, harsh suspension and no air conditioning. To each their own.

Also it is common to have issues the first 1-2 years after a major redesign. That's why I would never buy a brand new fist year model. If I had to have a first year model, I would buy a used one after the recalls have been done (and let someone else take the depreciation hit). More likely though, I would wait a few years into the run and then buy a new one -- most of the the bugs should be worked out by then.

Nothing wrong with loving your 2nd-gen. That being said, that doesn't mean the 3rd-gen's aren't awesome. I like both. There are things I like about each. To be honest, I love the 1st-gens as well. But for me, I'm happy with my 2nd-gen. I think even though 'outdated' it still is the best looking body lines. BGSMITH's truck, for example. That's an 06 and as good-looking as any truck on the road. 2nd-gen was a homerun, for me. But that is no disrespect to the 1st and 3rd-gen trucks, which I also love.

They say you shouldn't buy a new Car either the first or second year after a redesign or when it came out. I'm perfectly fine with that.

I bought my truck used and it came with the black grill, I just blacked out the Toyota emblem, I always thought it was a stock grill. It was replaced after a little front end collision I had.

That was the model I was originally looking for, then I saw the regular cab.

Truck looks good with those wheels.
