So by your "logic" you would be OK with a 4' bed. Right? Just drop the gate and you would have a 5' foot bed.

Get the long bed OR...you will mostly likely use the bed capacity more often than you think. I wish they made an OR in long bed in 2nd gen

    Doesn't compute.

The difference between the two available options is a dropped tailgate. Toyota even offers the cargo extender to accommodate this.

Tacoma doesn't even have a long bed. It is a short bed and a micro bed. I remember when Ford had a 10 foot bed!

I agree. I went with the DCLB thinking the extra 13" in the second row would be worth it. I usually have the seat down; makes a nice flat platform for things, and have also used it for the occasion extra passenger. For me, worth the downside of being a little longer.

Get a beater car if you are going to nyc. You will have door dings in no time. I always took my wife's camry vs the taco to 2 Penn. People in the city dont care if you are driving a $100k Benz, they will back into you regardless. Or get the taco and armor up for urban assault

DCLB 20% more turning radius vs short bed according to these guys. Does it really matter? Maybe for a u turn...or if you cant back up

Access Cab Tacomas are probably more rare these days. Most of the Toytacs I see on the road are four doors, DCLBs and DCLBs.

This truck works for me, but it's not what you usually see around here:

No regrets with the long bed. I've found the longer wheel base to be a nonissue offroading or in town. I drove both before buying and found that the long bed had a more comfortable ride on the freeway too.
Aesthetically the long bed is a better looking truck (in my opinion) because the contour & body line of the cab and bed match each other. The short beds cab & bed have different contours and the body lines that do not match. It's subtle but noticeable to me, once my OCD brain saw it, I can't unsee it.

Negative, the crease already exist on the rear passenger door. My previous post has nothing to do the door; I'm referring only to the missing crease/indentation on the bed. I own a DCLB, my buddy owns a DCSB; both cabs are identical. Stamping a little crease/indentation on the bed is merely cosmetic and has nothing to do with the operation of the rear passenger door.

I misunderstood your initial remark. The short bed doesn't have that crease because there isn't anywhere to put the crease. Look where the bed touches the cab, and where the fender flare begins. That space is just to small. I thought your were referring to the angled part of the crease that comes down at a 45 degree angle stamped on the long bed.

None yet but that's why I'm here. I hear nothing but great things about this forum
I think I have done as much research on this subject as anyone could. Currently drive a DC Prerunner long bed, bought with the idea that jetting around the city would be easier and it was a nice change from the big Sierra I was driving. Today I signed the deal on my second Taco, this time I'm getting the DC TRD Off Road long bed. I want to get in the dirt and rocks around Phoenix. You can't get a TRD Pro in long bed and at least you keep the rear locker with the TRD Off Road. 2020 doesn't change a bunch but you should probably look at them to see if you want the few added features, for me it wasn't worth the wait. (2020 releases fall). You don't get any additional payload but an extra foot is nice when you need it. Good Luck

I vote long bed! Just picked up my first Taco Saturday. I also felt the long bed rode a bit better as well as it looks better imo.

I had an 08 access cab and loved it. When it got totaled I got an 09 4 door long bed and hated it. I felt in my opinion it was way too long an it felt clumsy. I got rid of it a got a 19 access cab and its so much better. 6 foot of bed space and handles much better. Just my opinion there is no right and wrong.

I got the long bed, do not regret it up to this point. I will say visually I do like the short bed appearance.

I wish you could get DCLB with the MT. The LB would come in handy occasionally, but use the MT every day, so it won out!

I had option for both on lot and it was a no brainier to take the long bed. It's better to have that space for when you need it and if you're gonna off road it
I think the general conscious here is to get the long bed and I agree. You're better off having that extra space and can still get the features you want outta the truck. Just a helpful note, I got my 2017 DCLB TRD Sport in May of 2018. I got a pretty dang good deal on it since it was previous year. Especially with new model coming soon you might be able to score a good deal too if you're not overly picky on what you're looking for and can find one in stock. Good luck

I ended up getting the DCLB TRD Off Road. I had to get used to the length (that's what she said), but I'm glad I got the LB over the SB. Personally I think it looks better, and I use the extra bed length more than the off road features.
