Started last summer (2016). Sporadic, unpredictable. Sometimes goes months without doing it. Sometimes it`s multiple times in a single trip.

Carbon build up in/out? Checked plugs for even wear or discoloration? Loose wire somewhere?

Plugs looked normal when I changed them last fall.
    Clean throttle body and MAF.
    Cleaned PCV.

Checks plugs again if it's not too much trouble. Definitely look at power and grounds from the battery on. Could be simple as loose connection or corrosion, hope it's not a dying alternator.
I say this because this has happened on prior vehicles to me. Ended up being plugs and spark wires on one and alternator on another. Countless loose wires on my used up road working vehicles and rotten vacuum lines too

    Yes. Strange enough.
I also bought some really cheap vehicles just to get me to work for a while, and then buy another a year later.

after reading more, I really think it's oil control valve sticking. Some Land Cruiser and Lexus guys have described same power loss like it won't accellerate past 60km/h (40mph). OCV clean or replace fixed it. Usually threw code for them and they typically had rough idle too but not always.
Looks easy enough to pull and check.

Or maybe see if dealer will change as warranty since i have video showing it happen now.

    Try the warranty route.
It was put to me, "If some kind of fluid touches the part, it's under the power train warranty." I've not needed any warranty replacements yet, but I think you should at least try there first.

yeah. and i was still within 36000 regular warranty first time i went in to have them check it. It's on record that they couldn't replicate the issue.

Sounds like my kazoo wind noise BS.

My own POS sperm donor happened to be the mechanic that drove my truck too. He couldn't get it to happen either, but he agreed that it does in fact happen on the Tacoma and he said he has the same issue on his Ranger
